Steven Crowder
August 12, 1974 - November 1, 2025
Steven Crowder, 51, of Catawba, Va., went to be with Jesus on Saturday, November 1, 2025.
He was born on August 12, 1974, to Joseph Shelby Crowder and Linda Goens Crowder. Steve was a big man with a big heart, big laugh, and even bigger smile. He left us way too soon. He worked in the warehouse for Coca-Cola Consolidated for almost 24 years. When not working, Steve spent his time taking excellent and devoted care of his sweet mother. He was a true Momma's Boy in the very best of ways. Steve was also a truly devoted husband and father to his wife and their three sons. There wasn't a single thing in this world he wouldn't do for them and they knew it. He lovingly referred to his boys as "The Knuckleheads". Steve shared his love of fishing with his boys. Often they'd fish at Craig's Creek or at Pete's farm on Catawba Creek. Family-time was also spent kayaking, camping, watching football games, singing and listening to country and bluegrass music, taking his family on many hiking trips, building a treehouse mansion, riding four wheelers, taking his turn sledding down the yard with the kids, making a huge water slide that he'd be enjoying just as much as his boys and their friends, riding in the green machine with the boys, taking rides in ole red with Corban and singing with the radio, throwing ball in the yard, he'd plan and take his family on the best day-trips – it must be hundreds over the years. Vacationing at the beach was one of the family's favorite things because Steve was a big kid too. He'd swim all day in the ocean or pool playing with the boys, throwing them up in the air a hundred times, digging and playing in the sand with them, and always brought laughter and a good time with him! Steve and his boys loved making jokes and roasting each other often. On the day to day of life, Steve just truly enjoyed being with his family. He cooked them dinner every day and made Saturday morning breakfast – their favorite was his homemade sausage gravy and biscuits. Then he and Corban would watch Saturday morning old school cartoons. He also gave the biggest and best hugs. Steve and Jennifer opened their home to all of their boys' friends and often had extra 'sons' at the house. For years they had big dinner crowds on Wednesday nights before the kids headed to Awana at church. Steve and Jennifer were baptized together in Catawba Creek and both grew in their faith together while sharing it with their boys too. Steve loved Jesus. He did a daily devotionals and read his Bible he carried in his lunchbox every day on his break at work, lead his family to know Jesus and love Jesus, and would want nothing more than to see ALL his friends and family in Heaven one day. His favorite bible verse was Psalms 23.
Steve was their rock and will continue to be a guiding light in their life. He was totally devoted to his family, so kind and loving to his wife, so very proud of his boys and all their accomplishments, their biggest and loudest fan, and supported and cheered them on in every step of life. Steve never missed a single game his boys played in over the years. Glenvar football stadium was their home away from home for many years. He truly enjoyed life and brought so much laughter, smiles, and immense joy to his family and friends. He was just a phone call away. If anyone needed help, you could always count on him. He was the most genuine and selfless husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend. His light shined bright and is already so missed!
Steve was preceded in death by his father.
