Virginia Statome Obituary

Virginia Mildred Staton Statome "79" of Old Buena Vista Road, Buena Vista, Va., entered into heaven on Thursday, September 24, 2009, after a long illness. She was born on August 10, 1930, to Love and Effie Staton. Virginia was a devoted Sunday School teacher, sister, wife, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She worked at Cato's in Buena Vista before becoming the manager of Cato's in Lexington and Covington, and the Super Dollar in Glasgow and Buena Vista. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Ralph. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Sharon and husband, Jay Brown, of Virginia Beach, and Mikey, Daryl, and Jay Statome, of Buena Vista; sisters, Shirley Moore, Barbara Mace and Priscilla Sorrells; brothers, Henry Rosevelt, Bobby, Charles, Ronnie, Larry and Lloyd Staton; grandchildren, Joel Gilley, Megan Brown, Taylor and Trevor Statome; and greatgrandchildren, Brooke and Ashley Gilley. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. on Monday, September 28, 2009, at First Brethren Church in Buena Vista. The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 27, 2009, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Bolling, Grose, and Lotts Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Green Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Jimmy Smals officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Rockbridge Area Hospice in memory of Virginia. Arrangement by Bolling, Grose, and Lotts Funeral Home, Buena Vista, Va.
