William Campbell Obituary

William Shirley Campbell

September 2, 1935 - January 8, 2021

It is with deep sorrow and much love that our family announces the passing of William "Shirley" Campbell, age 85, of Redwood. Shirley passed away peacefully the evening of Friday, January 8, 2021 with the love of his family surrounding him. Shirley was born to William Dalton Campbell and Lillie Hicks Campbell on September 2, 1935, in Redwood, Va.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Margaret Thurman; brothers-in-law, Franklin Furrow, Percy Furrow, Sherman A. Furrow Jr., Paul Waldrop; sister-in-law, Belvie Furrow; and son-in-law, Jeff Sink.

Shirley is survived by his loving wife, Lois Furrow Campbell; daughter, Teresa Sink; sons, Wendel Campbell, Robert Campbell (Theresa); daughter, Sara Herbst (Sterling); five grandchildren, Cameron and Meagan Campbell, Traci Lavinder (Aaron) and Joel Sink, and Jake Herbst. Also surviving are two sisters, Dalphia Furrow and Linda Waybright; sisters-in-law, Clara Eanes (Richard) and Francis Waldrop; and brother-in-law, Wayne Furrow (Poppy). Many cherished nephews, nieces, and cousins also survive.

As a boy and even as a young man, Shirley was very active and enjoyed playing baseball. Shirley met the love of his life, Lois, at the Mount Theater in Rocky Mount and they were married on March 9, 1957 and were inseparable for 63 years. Shirley owned and operated Campbell's Service Station and Grocery in Redwood from 1957 to 1982 while also driving a school bus for 22 years. He retired as a building supply employee after 25 years of service. Shirley lived his entire life in Redwood, Va. and was very supportive and giving to neighbors and members of the community. He was kind-hearted and would always help anyone in need.

Shirley was a family man who loved gathering with relatives. He was a dedicated husband and father and he lived his life to best provide for them. In later years, Shirley enjoyed bowling and golf and was a regular fixture around the community of Redwood. Until the very end he always loved children and enjoyed watching and interacting with his grandchildren. He was loved and will be greatly missed by all.
