William J. "Bill" Flora, Jr.

August 6, 1947 - February 23, 2024

William J. Flora, Jr., 76, widower of Patricia Ann Hayes Flora went to be with the Lord on Friday, February 23, 2024. In addition to his wife of 55 years he was preceded in death by his parents, William J. and Dorris Davis Flora, Sr.

Bill was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force. After the military he worked for the Norfolk Southern Railroad for many years and then went to work for Ingersol Rand. Bill was a man who loved his family fiercely and was their biggest Cheerleader, always supporting them in whatever they sought to do.

He will be missed and remembered by his daughter, Melody Smither and her husband Eric; grandson, Jacob W. Smither; sister, Esther Howery; brother-in-law, Michael Hayes (Cheryl); sister-in-law, Judy Hayes; nephews and nieces, Jeremy Hayes (Jessica), J.W. Howery (Meagan), William Hayes (Brittney), Elijah Dawson, Dennis Hayes (Kristy), Joey Hayes (Jenny), Katrina Reitzel, Melissa Smith (Patrick); as well as several great-nieces and great-nephews whom he loved dearly.

Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 in the Chapel of Simpson Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Lauridsen officiating. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 11 a.m. at Simpson Funeral Home.

The family would like to say a special thank you the staff of Friendship North and Good Samaritan Hospice for the care that they have shown during this time.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorials be made to Good Samaritan Hospice, 2408 Electric Road, Roanoke, VA 24018 or to the Wounded Warrior Project at woundedwarriorproject.org.
