Margaret Sweatt
LUMBERTON — Margaret Monahan Sweatt, 77, of Lumberton, passed away on Dec. 15, 2013, at Wesley Pines Retirement Community.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Floyd Memorial Chapel, Bishop Joe Grice, the Rev. Richard Grice and Bishop Kenneth Locklear officiating. Burial will follow in Floyd Memory Gardens in Lumberton.
She was born in Marlboro County, S.C., on May 18, 1936, the third child born to Hattie McDowell Monahan and Julius Harley (Bud) Monahan. Margaret married LG (Pee Wee) Sweatt on Nov. 7, 1952, and he preceded her in death on May 31, 2011.
She was a gospel singer as well as her whole family. She and her family traveled near and far singing, praying, and worshipping God. She was a songwriter, inspired by God. She has written well over 100 songs. She was above all a mother of four children, Bondsey of Baraga, Mich., Michael of Harmons, Md., Sharon Sweatt and Sara Strickland of Lumberton. She raised her children and tried to inspire them. She taught them to love God. So, now Margaret is in Heaven waiting for her family to join her.
She also leaves behind 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, Billy Strickland Jr. of Lumberton; and two daughters-in-law, Wanda Sweatt of Baraga, Mich., and Debbie Sweatt of Harmons, Md.; and a sister, Julia Grice of Cheraw, S.C.
Her sisters preceding her in death are Kathleen Weatherford and Naomi Ard.
The visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Floyd Mortuary & Crematory Inc., 809 E. Fifth St. in Lumberton.
