Virgil Britt
ORRUM — Virgil "Chuck" Britt III, 61, of Orrum, N.C., passed away on July 18, 2016, at Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton, N.C.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today at Victory Christian Fellowship in Lumberton, the Bro. Ellis Autry and Bro. Tim Holden officiating. A private burial will be held at a later time. Arrangements are by Floyds Mortuary in Lumberton, N.C.
Virgil Claudis Britt III was born in Lumberton to Virgil C. Britt Jr and Betty K. Britt on July 2, 1955. He went to school at Orrum High School. He married Vickie Sue Stewart on Dec. 1, 1984. He worked as a dedicated manager for ARC3 gases (formally Machine and Welding Supply Co.) for 22 years. Virgil was a devoted Christian, wonderful person, loyal employee, dear friend and an even better husband, father and grandfather. He was an avid outdoorsman, where fishing, hunting and golfing were his true interest. He spent most of his time making sure that his grandboys learned the true way of hunting and fishing, and that they would carry on his beloved passion long after he was gone. As his company's co-president stated, "He embodied our company's highest ideals — integrity, selflessness, and a sincere desire to serve others." This was true of him in his work but also in every aspect of his life. He also stated that even with the difficult journey Virgil was on, he always demonstrated the same kindness, grace and good humor that one expected from Virgil, and that it was humbling to see someone so strong in the face of such adversity and it was clear that his peace came from a deep and abiding faith.
Virgil Claudis Britt III is survived by his loving wife, Vickie Stewart Britt; a brother, Robert "Robin" Knox Britt and his wife, Vickie; three sisters, Sheila Britt Webb and her husband Mike, Gail Conlee and her husband John, and Ann Goodwin and her husband Bill; his three daughters, Amanda Britt Brewer and her husband Jason, Jennifer Britt Meyers and her husband Justin, and Natalie Sue Stewart; two amazing grandchildren, whom he loved more than life itself, Ethan and Landon Brewer; special longtime friends, Ellis and Frances Autry, and Dyanne Bullock; his mother-in-law, Barbara Stewart; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Jay Gray, Scott Brewer, Billy Thompson, Lenny Shirley, Joe Shirley and Curtiss Shirley.
In lieu of flowers, Virgil desired to have a scholarship fund set up for his grandchildren. Please contact immediate family for details.
The family of Virgil C. Britt III wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the Cancer Centers of America in Atlanta, the staff of SRMC for their wonderful care in his last days, Victory Christian Fellowship and their amazing members, and everyone who sent up many prayers for him during his time of need and extended illness.

Aunt Vickie and family. Brent and I will miss Uncle Chuck very much and we love you all. He was the first person Brent told he was going to ask me to marry him because I could sink a can in the river shooting a rifle. Then Uncle Chuck said, "Oh he brings all the girlfriends here to try but not one could sink a can, he said with a smirk, welcome to the family" He always had a way to cut up a laugh over something, makes me smile. I think that is one characteristic we all will miss the most, his laugh. It was one of a kind. We love you all and are grateful that Uncle Chuck is laughing with Jesus now and we all shall see him again one day. Psalm 62:2 - "Truly He is my Rock and my Salvation; He is my Fortress, I will not be shaken"
Love you!

Vickie, Amanda, Jennifer and Natalie,
It is with a heavy heart I offer my sincere thoughts and prayers for you and your family. I will say although Virgil and I have only seen each other about 6 times in the last 15 years and I can say he is one of two people I have had in my life that if I was in need I could pick up he phone and say " Virgil I need your help " and his response would be where and how? You got it "good buddy." He is family to me. His smile was infectious and his laugh uplifting. Virg, hit em long and straight and save a big buck for me.

Shared some time with Chuck at UNC back in 1973-74, a few good trips to and from Robeson. A lot to talk about between 2 high school buddies. It saddens me to realize that we lost contact over the years. My loss. It appears that Chuck acquired and nurtured many friends and a loving family. God bless you all and celebrate the love that came through Chuck from the Master. We should all be so blessed.
