Mr. William Corbett Fields, Sr.
Mr. William Corbett Fields, Sr., age 85, of Evergreen, North Carolina, passed away on Tuesday, September 24, 2024. Mr. Fields was born in the family home in Evergreen on October 19, 1938, to the late William Taft Fields and Lois Loretta Inman Fields.
He was a graduate of Evergreen High School and Pembroke State University. He served in the U.S. National Guard and as a North Carolina Probation Officer. Working as a personnel director for over 30 years in Robeson County, he managed the start-up of three industrial plants: Texfi, Boise Cascade, and Elkay Southern. In retirement, he served on the Board of Directors of Cape Fear Farm Credit.
Corbett grew up hunting in the Big Swamp and fishing in the Lumber River and remained an avid sportsman his entire life. He loved working the family farm and had a gift for identifying the potential of a tract of land.
Corbett Fields is survived by his wife of 45 years, Peggy Godwin Fields, and his three children: Ann Wray Ramey, William Corbett Fields, Jr., and Frances Taylor Fields; four grandchildren: Patrick Corey Fields, Jacob Ramey, Kayla Ramey and Clair Fields; three great-grandchildren: Inman, Douglas, and Jackson Fields; and two sisters, Amelia Fields Leggett and Betsy C. Smith.
Mr. Fields was predeceased by his parents and his siblings, Claudette Fields Blackwell, Polly Fields Welshans, and Joe Thad Fields.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 28, 2024, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Floyd Mortuary & Crematory, Inc., 809 East 5th Street in Lumberton, NC.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 29, 2024, at 3:00 pm at Antioch Baptist Church, 5089 Old Whiteville Road in Lumberton, NC. Burial will follow at Boardman Baptist Church Cemetery, 2417 Old Boardman Road in Evergreen, NC.
Corbett and Peggy Fields are members of Antioch Church and donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to Antioch Baptist Church, 5089 Old Whiteville Road, Lumberton, NC 28358, in memory of Corbett Fields.
