Ruth Ann Funk, age 92, of rural Akron, died May 14, 2024 at Parkview Regional Hospital, Fort Wayne, at 8:13 a.m.
She was born on Jan. 31, 1932, in Roann, to Palmer and Maxine (Needham) Bickel. She graduated from Gilead High School in 1950.
Ruth married Walter D. Funk on Sept. 9, 1950 in Oswego.
She lived most of her life in rural Akron coming here from Gilead.
Her career was working as a secretary, office manager and receptionist. Among her places of work were Irelan-Baum Feed Mill, Pike Lumber, Everly Trucking and Metzger Trucking, where she eventually retired.
Ruth enjoyed playing cards and traveling, being a member of the String Town Home Club, visiting casinos and playing games on her iPad. She was a member of the Akron Church of God.
Surviving Ruth are three sons, Gary (spouse Nila) Funk of Greenville, Tenn., Donald (spouse Wanda) Funk of Grovetown, Ga., Robert (spouse Tammie) Funk of Akron; sevem grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren
Preceding Ruth in death are her parents, husband Walter D. Funk (Sept. 12, 2003), three brothers, Gene Bickel, Jerry Bickel (May 29, 2020), James Bickel (August 7, 2023), and sister-in-law Bonnie Bickel (Aug. 10, 2023).
Visitation will be Sunday, May 19, 2024, at Earl-Love Funeral Home, 811 E. Rochester St., Akron, Indiana from 3-6 p.m.
Funeral service will be Monday, May 20, 2024, at the funeral home at 11 a.m. with Pastor Mandy Nellans officiating. Burial will be in the Akron IOOF Cemetery, Akron.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Akron Church of God, P.O. Box 66, Akron, Indiana

Kelly and I (and our family) extend our deepest sympathies to the family. Ruth Ann was like a part of our family and my frequent euchre partner in cards. Many, many memories of Ruth Ann, all of them very fond memories.

Gary and family, I am so sorry for your loss. I remember your Mom working at the feed mill and I would see her when I went with my dad. My sincere sympathy.
