Ernest Dexter Holmes Jr.

Ernest Dexter Holmes, Jr., age 83 of Conyers, passed away Saturday, January 11, 2025. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia Jane Ellington Holmes; parents, Ernest Dexter & Bess McDonald Holmes; sister, Betty Jane Holmes Kirkpatrick. He is survived by his children, Steven Matthew Holmes, Sally Janel Holmes Allen, & her husband, Scot Morgan Allen, Suzanne Marie Holmes Funk; grandchildren, Jordan Marie Holmes, Laurel Jane Holmes Esposito, Sara Marie Funk, Summer Jane Funk, Owen Morgan Allen; sister, Edith Holmes Bowie. During Ernest's long & rewarding life, he attained a bachelor's and master's degree at Georgia State University, and was the long-time owner and operator of Holmes Seed & Fertilizer in historic Olde Town Conyers. Ernest was an active member of Rockdale Baptist Church & served as a Meals on Wheels volunteer. He enjoyed long neighborhood walks, working in his yard, & reading. Graveside services will be held Thursday, January 16, 2025 at 2:00 PM at East View Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, January 16, 2025 from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM at the funeral home.
