James Buford "Jim" Holder Jr.

Eastern Air Lines Captain James (Jim) Buford Holder, Jr., age 88, of Conyers, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at Abbey Hospice in Social Circle, Georgia. Born in Lexington, Mississippi, Jim was the beloved son of the late James B. Holder, Sr. and Annie Emma (Farmer) Holder. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his youngest daughter, Stephanie Rae Holder, and half-brother, Larry Holder. A proud veteran of the Mississippi Air National Guard, Jim lived a life marked by service, dedication, and community. He was Methodist by faith and an active member in numerous organizations that reflected his passion for aviation and fellowship. Even as he achieved and excelled in his dream career as an airline pilot, Jim still felt the call to serve his community. He proudly served in many capacities across numerous aviation organizations, to include Council 07 Chairman of the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA), past president of both the Retired Eastern Pilots Association (REPA) and the Silver Falcons, and more leisurely roles as a long-standing member of the Quiet Birdmen and past president of the Eastern Air Lines Pilots Hunt Club (EALPHC) of which he never missed an Opening Day and spent many hours of fellowship and camaraderie around the campfire. Jim is survived by his loving wife, Carrie Holder of Conyers; his son and daughter-in-law, James "Mike" and Pia Holder of Spring Hope, NC; his daughter and son-in-law, Tracey and Marco Pizer of Myersville, MD; grandchildren Savannah Rae Holder of Albuquerque, NM, and Mario Pizer of Myersville, MD; and a host of cousins and extended family who will miss him dearly.
