Thomas "Monroe" Duke

Monroe Duke, age 89, of Conyers, passed away Wednesday, June 28, 2023. He was preceded in death by his mother, Zema Webb Duke; father, I. S. Duke; stepmother, Hazel Duke; wife, Louise Nix Duke; wife, Sandra Phillips Duke; brothers, Doyle Duke, Robert Duke, Wendell Duke and Boyd Duke; stepbrothers, Tony Moore, Billy Moore and Charles Moore; sister, Marie Duke Chapman; stepson, Glenn Granade; granddaughter, Ashley Abbott Lung. He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Mark Beam, Tabatha Duke and Lee Tarlton; stepson and daughter-in-law, Ken and Trish Granade; grandchildren, Stacy Beam, Brandon Beam, Chris Granade, Stephanie Dyar, Kelley Granade, and Jeffrey Granade; great grandchildren, Eli, Hailey, Angelique, Jayden, KC, Bair, Brooks; brother and sister-in-law, Delton and Donna Duke; stepbrother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Shirley Moore; many nieces, nephews, cousins and a multitude of friends including Alexis Duffey and Peyton Duffey that he considered granddaughters. Monroe served in the Army from 1951-1954. He retired from General Motors in 1989. From 1989-1991 he worked for Cellofoam, Inc. During his retirement he had numerous jobs including B&S Welding, Rockdale Recycling (1994-2004), and as truck driver for more than 20 years. He was also a Santa's helper from 1982-2014. He was an avid Alabama fan and was a member of Rockdale Church of Christ. Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 2, 2023, at 2 pm at Scot Ward's Green Meadow Chapel with Brother Willie Blair officiating.
