Christine Bowden Obituary
Christine Clinedinst Bowden, a resident of Port Republic, Va., went to be with the Lord on October 18, 2025, at the age of 75. She was born April 24, 1950, in Harrisonburg Va.
She graduated from Broadway High School in 1968, and was the daughter of the late Charles Moore and Louise Phillips Clinedinst of the Mountain Valley area.
She married the love of her life, Donald Leonard Bowden of Harrisonburg, a Turner Ashby graduate, on July 5, 1969. They were married 53 years and resided in Port Republic until he went home to be with the Lord on August 22, 2023.
Surviving are two daughters, Christy Nichole Bowden of Port Republic, Angela Bowden Storm and husband, William of Grottoes; grandchildren, Makayla May Bowden, Wyatt James Wonderley; sisters, Charlotte Robinson of Harrisonburg, Judy Deavers of McGaheysville, Rose Etta Clinedinst of New Market; brothers, Charles W. Clinedinst and wife, Kaye of Harrisonburg, Gary E. Clinedinst and wife, Patricia "Pat" of Harrisonburg; brother-in-law, Charles "Chuck" Bowden and wife, Faye of Harrisonburg; sister-in-law, Shirley Bowden Getz and husband, Clarence "Sony" of Harrisonburg, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Richard Robinson.
She was employed by Larson's Fabric Center in Harrisonburg, H.D. Lee Plant in Broadway, and Sancar Inc. in Harrisonburg. She was a stay-at-home mom until she went back to the work field at TransAmerica Telemarketing Inc. in Harrisonburg, and Woelfel Research Inc. of Harrisonburg. Christine pursued care as a C.N.A. after her and her sisters cared for their mother. She then worked at Little Peoples Preschool as a helper then a teacher for 18 years teaching K-3, until her health forced her to retire. The children called her "Ms. B", she enjoyed working with the children, and the staff at Peoples Baptist Church.
Christine was a faithful member of People Baptist Church for 55 years (1970-2025), serving her Lord in the choir, specials, teaching Jr. church; Sunday school, and nursery. She also helped where she could in activities, showers, meals, bible school, and loved working with the teens. Christine said, "We serve a Great God, and he is Greatly to be praised."
She loved her Lord, her family, her country, and loved to serve others. She persevered through cancer for years, but God helped her all the way. One of her favorite pastimes was annual family trips to the OBX with beautiful sunrises and sunsets over the sea.
A funeral service will be conducted 3 p.m. Friday, October 24, 2025, at Peoples Baptist Church in Penn Laird with Pastor Willie Weaver and Pastor Jay Hanger officiating. She will be buried at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in McGaheysville.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg. The casket will remain closed.
