Daisy Marie VanPelt

Daisy Marie (Halterman) VanPelt, 74, of Harrisonburg, passed away on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at Green Acres Rehab and Nursing in Stanardsville. Mrs. VanPelt was born on September 21, 1951, in Highland County and was a daughter of the late Elijah Paul and Rosemary Kathleen (Lowry) Halterman. Daisy graduated with a Bachelors in Nursing from Eastern Mennonite College, and later from the Medical College of Virginia with a Masters of Nursing. She worked as a nurse for Rockingham Memorial Hospital where she was the head of Labor and Delivery for many years. She was also active in the creation and development of the Women's Health Focus. Mrs. VanPelt was a long-time member of Otterbein United Methodist Church. She also enjoyed traveling and taking vacations. On October 18, 1975, she married Tony Alvin VanPelt who preceded her in death on November 10, 2018. Daisy is survived by her daughter, Christina "Chrissy" Blount and husband, Robert of New Market; a brother, Glen Halterman and wife, Cathy of Highland County; grandchildren, Wyatt Kibler, Colton Blount, Mackenzie Blount, Brody Blount, and Aiden Blount; niece, Amy Halterman Johnson; and a nephew, Travis Halterman. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6 until 8 p.m., October 20, 2025, at the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at 11 a.m., at Otterbein United Methodist Church with Rev. Adam Blagg officiating. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens near Harrisonburg. In lieu of flowers, the family requests all memorial contributions to New Market Fire and Rescue, 9771 S. Congress St., New Market, VA 22844; or to Otterbein United Methodist Church, 176 W. Market St., Harrisonburg, VA 22801.
