Stephen Michael "Steve" Rhodes

Stephen Michael Rhodes, known affectionately as Steve to his friends and family, was called home to be with the Lord on November 1, 2025, at the age of 76. Born on March 12, 1949, to Trovilla (Buck) Rhodes and Ogretta Rhodes Nesselrodt, in Harrisonburg, VA. Steve's journey through life was marked by his unwavering faith, his love for his family, and his passion for sports.

Steve graduated from Broadway High School in 1967, graduated from Shenandoah College with an Associate's degree in 1969, and James Madison University in 1971 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in biology. He went on to work many years as a Quality Control Manager/Water Plant Operator.

Steve's faith in our Lord Jesus was the cornerstone of his life, guiding him in his roles as a loving husband to his wife of 54 years, Judy Higgs Rhodes, a devoted father to his children, Meridith Peele and Jeremy Rhodes, son-in-law Sterling, and a doting grampy to his beloved grandchildren, Morgan, Tyler, Jackson, Wyatt, Afton. He is also survived by his great grandchildren Rein and Harper, a sister Susan Rhodes, a niece Tracey Grimm, and his stepfather Gene Nesselrodt. Steve's family was his pride and joy, and he instilled in them the values of kindness, generosity, and faith.

An avid sports enthusiast, Steve cherished the moments spent cheering on his favorite baseball team, Cincinnati Reds, and football team, Baltimore Ravens. He enjoyed the camaraderie of golfing with friends.

Those who knew Steve would describe him as a man with a great sense of humor, always ready with a joke to brighten someone's day. His generous spirit was felt by all, as he was ever ready to lend a helping hand or offer a thoughtful word. Steve's presence was a gift to those around him, and his legacy of kindness and generosity will continue to inspire. We take comfort in the knowledge that Steve is now at peace in the eternal embrace of his Savior, leaving behind a legacy of love that will forever be cherished.

A memorial service is planned for Sunday December 7, 2025, at 1:30pm at Grandle Funeral Home Chapel. A private burial will follow.
