Edward Glasgow Obituary

'Eddie'
Edward Alton "Eddie" Glasgow, Jr., age 59, passed away peacefully Wednesday, August 22, 2012. He was born in Rocky Mount on March 20, 1953, son of Christine Searcy Glasgow and the late Edward Alton Glasgow.
Eddie graduated from Rocky Mount Senior High School in 1972 and graduated from East Carolina University. Most recently, Eddie was the owner of Raleigh Hauling. His prior employment was a salesman with American Coating and Insulation Systems in Greensboro, NC.
Eddie leaves to cherish his memory, his mother, Christine Searcy Glasgow; sister, Patsy Glasgow Horton and her husband, Rick; nephew, Rick Horton all of Rocky Mount; Aunt, Peggy Searcy May and her husband, John of Apopka, FL; uncle, Robert Searcy and his wife, Edna of Raleigh, NC; several cousins; and his beloved dog, Buddy.
Eddie enjoyed time spent at the outer banks with family and friends. He had a true love for boating and surf fishing. Eddie was a licensed scuba diver as well as an avid water skier.
Eddie was a great communicator that never met a stranger. It has often been said, "If you didn't know Eddie when he walked in a room, you would certainly know him when you left."
Eddie has taught us the true meaning of perseverance and strength by overcoming a major stroke in January. He defied the odds and exceeded the expectations of his doctors and therapists. Eddie's courage and determination was an example for all. He learned and taught life's greatest lesson to love one another.
The family would like to thank Deborah Cunningham Bryan and Steve and Carol Parker all of Raleigh for their special compassion, care and time that they spent with Eddie. The family would also like to express their appreciation to Dr. David Browder for his deep compassion and care of Eddie. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Eddie's memory to, William M. Dunlap Center for Caring, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607.
The family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30pm Friday, August 24, 2012 at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home. A funeral service to remember Eddie's life will be held at 2:00pm Saturday, August 25, 2012 in the chapel of Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home with Dr. Jody Wright officiating. Burial will follow at Pineview Cemetery in Rocky Mount. (section 10)
Arrangements entrusted to Wheeler Woodlief Funeral Home, 1130 N. Winstead Avenue, Rocky Mount, NC 27804. You may share memories and condolences with the family by visiting www.wheelerwoodlief.com.

We the members of the Al Wiliams Band was saddened to hear of Homegoing of Mr. Eddie. He will be remembered as a kind and loving young man. If I had to pick one word to describe my lifelong friend, it would be "genuine". Eddie was a genuine person who offered friendship to everyone he encountered, because we all know that he never met a stranger. I extend my sympathy to Mrs. Glasgow, Patsy, and the Glasgow family; God bless you all.

I am so sorry to hear about Eddie. I will miss his visits to my house to surf fish on the beach. The last time he was here, he landed a 33 inch black drum that we had for dinner. I ocasionally spent a night at Eddie's house in Wake Forest when I had appointments in Raleigh. I will miss you old friend, hope to see you on the other side.

Mrs. Glasgow and family. Eddie and I were neighbors when he lived at Riverside Apartments. We always had a great time going to parties and a group of us hanging out together. Eddie was the life of a group no matter where he was. I haven't seen Eddie in a long time since I don't work in Rocky Mount Belk any more, but I will always cherish his laughter and beautiful smile. Just remember one thing is that God wanted a new angel, so he chose Eddie. There's a new star in the sky now.

May God give you the strength now and the days ahead. God Bless each one of you.
