George Winstead Obituary
George, lovingly known by his nickname "Button," lived a life marked by dedication to his family, community, and public service. He proudly served as the director of EMS for Nash County and was a dedicated, volunteer fireman, giving of his time and energy to protect and care for others. George also enjoyed farming, fishing, and cheering for his beloved NC State Wolfpack.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Allyson Warren Winstead; his son, Nicholas Winstead and spouse Anthony; and his daughter, Amanda Winstead. He was a proud grandfather to Abbygale Joyner, Addyson Layton, Wyatt Layton, and Annabelle Layton. George is also survived by his sister, Marie Perry. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by other loved ones who went before him.
Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on Thursday, September 4, 2025, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Cornerstone Funeral Home. A memorial service celebrating George's life will follow at 12:30 p.m., officiated by Rev. Bill Brantley.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Coopers Fire Department, 3628 Volunteer Road, Elm City, NC 27822, in honor of George's lifelong commitment to serving his community.
George's life and legacy will continue to inspire all who knew and loved him.
