Ivan Gray Dickerson

Ivan Gray Dickerson Rocky Mount - Ivan Gray Dickerson, 89, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 26, 2022. Ivan was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Yvonne Viverette Dickerson, and was the son of the late James Graham and Marilda Strickland Dickerson of Franklin County. He was also preceded in death by his son, David Dickerson, grandson Christopher Helton, and brothers Roger, Harold, Maurice, Ashley, Fred, and Phil.

He is survived by daughter Vicky Goode and son-in-law Jim Eason, daughter Pam Spivey, son Michael Dickerson and daughter-in-law Jessica, grandsons Drew Spivey and Matthew Dickerson, and sister Merle Ferguson of Durham.

Ivan was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in Korea. He served as a Rocky Mount police officer for thirty years, retiring as Lieutenant, and then went on to serve as a Nash County Magistrate.

He will be lovingly remembered for his strong work ethic, his often-repeated stories about his days in the Army and as a police officer, his love of fishing, and for always winning the family games of Rook and Hearts.

The family wishes to thank Bridget Linkous, Angela Green, and the Staffs of Autumn Care and Brookdale Assisted Living, all of whom provided care to Ivan in his later years.

Funeral services will be held at Cornerstone Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 29, 2022, with visitation beginning at 12:30pm, followed by the service at 2:00pm and burial at Forest Hill Cemetery in Nashville.
