Oliver Lee "Pete" Whitley Nashville - Oliver Lee "Pete" Whitley, 94, passed away Tuesday, July 25, 2023. He was born September 28, 1928 in Nash County to the late Archie Sr. and Grace Winstead Whitley. In addition to parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Archie Whitley, Jr.; great-grandchild, Evie Whitley and the mother of his five children, Mary Elliott. He was a graduate of Benvenue High School where he played sports. Pete was the owner of Heritage Paint & Wallcovering and was very adamant that his customers were satisfied with his work. Servicing his customers was top on his list. His most famous quote while working, which was displayed on his work van, was "I fight poverty, I work". He was an Air Force Veteran and a member of the American Legion. He leaves to cherish his memory his significant other, Ann Braddy; three sons, Charlie (Donna), A.B. , and Kevin Whitley(Jenny) ; two daughters Mary Grace Daughtridge (Tommy), and Sylvia Batchelor (Jerry); caregiver, Diane Chapman, six grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. Visitation with family and friends will be Friday, July 28, 2023 from 10:00-10:45AM at Cornerstone Funeral Home with a funeral service to be held at 11:00am in the Chapel with Rev. Mark Pridgen officiating. Burial will follow at Pineview Cemetery, Rocky Mount, NC. Flowers accepted or donations to Nash Hospice or American Legion.
