Anita Stewart Obituary

Anita Merryman "Bo Peep" Stewart, age 80, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2025, in her hometown of Rome, Georgia. Born on January 5, 1945, also in Rome, Anita lived a life rooted in service, love, and unwavering dedication to her family, faith, and community.

Anita was a proud and accomplished educator. She earned her Master's degree in Education in 1976, followed by an Education Specialist Degree in 1980, focusing on Education and Administration. Her commitment to learning and teaching shaped not only her professional life but also the lives of countless students and colleagues who benefited from her wisdom, guidance, and passion for education.

A devoted mother and grandmother, Anita is survived by her three sons: Andrew of Atlanta, Emmett of Malta, and Jason of Cartersville. She also leaves behind five beloved grandchildren and two cousins, all of whom were deeply cherished by her. Anita was predeceased by her loving husband, Quillian, and her parents, Mary and J.W. McKenzie.

Anita's faith was a cornerstone of her life. A long time member of Trinity by the River, she was deeply involved in the church's educational programs, including PALs and Vacation Bible School. Her devotion to her faith community was evident in her tireless efforts to nurture spiritual growth in others, especially children.

Outside of her professional and spiritual commitments, Anita found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved working in her yard, tending to her garden with care and pride. She also enjoyed painting with her friends, a creative outlet that brought her both peace and connection.

Known affectionately as "Bo Peep," Anita was a beacon of warmth and generosity. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, educator, and community activist. Her life was marked by a steadfast willingness to help those around her-whether family, friends, or neighbors. Anita had a remarkable ability to recognize when she could make a difference, and she never hesitated to step in with compassion and strength.

Anita Stewart's legacy is one of love, service, and enduring faith. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her. A Memorial Service will be held on October 25, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 01:00 PM at Trinity By the River 606 Turner McCall Blvd. Receiving to begin at 11 AM.

Very few people come into your life and truly change it! Bo Peep was one of those for me! Working for her at Explo throughout my college years allowed me to find my true calling as a teacher! My very first teaching experience was due to her . She hired me as a sub at Emerson at the end of each of my college years! Over the years, she helped me dozens of times when I hit a stumbling block in my career and personal life! She was truly a blessing that will live on! May God be with the family because I have no doubt this Angel is enjoying heaven!
Bo Peep will be missed here, but she is lighting up heaven for the rest of us! Terry Allee
