Mrs. Bishop gave me the best 5th grade year at West Central. I don't remember all of my teachers, but I always always remembered Mrs. Bishop. She always had a place in my heart. She was a very intelligent teacher, she kept structure in her classroom and always made sure I understood what she was teaching me. I messaged her last year to see if she remembered me, and she did, we had the best conversation, a conversation i'll always cherish. My heart goes out to her children, husband and family. I am so sorry for your loss, she was amazing in so many ways. Heaven gained a beautiful angel. I love you Mrs. Bishop!!

I just heard about Julie and the one word that comes to me when remembering her is kind. I taught at West Central with her for 5 years and we were across the hall at the end of the building for 3 of them. Teachers can form cliques and can be hard to deal with sometimes but Julie was the kindest person to everyone. Students loved her and teachers loved her. We got married the same year and had our first children the same year (and if I remember correctly we also had miscarriages in the same month). I remember how happy Julie was meeting Justin and getting married. I lost touch with her but was so sad to hear of her passing. She was an incredible person, awesome teacher, and great friend. We are praying for her family and friends.

Julie was more like a big sister than a neighbor or friend! I loved every conversation she shared with me about teaching math strategies, life lessons, or front porch chats. I am so thankful God had us build homes in the same neighborhood and create lasting friendships that now our daughters share! Julie honored our Heavenly Father so well through her faith during her courageous journey these past five years, and my life has been eternally changed because of meeting Julie!

Julie fought hard and kept her Faith every step of the way. She was my best friend but she will be my spiritual & soul sister forever!
❤ We’ve laughed until we’ve cried. We’ve loved right down to our last goodbye. We were the best of friends. And I promised to cherish her family until we meet again.❤

I began working at West Central in 2003. Julie and I got to know each other as we loaded buses together that first year. Although she was a few years older than me, we shared some common childhood memories from the 80s--especially memories of watching "The Dukes of Hazzard" on Saturday nights as children. She was a great teacher and I always enjoyed talking to her whenever we had the chance at school. Please know that the family will be in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Julie had a wonderful personality and I know she'll be greatly missed by everyone she loved.

I regretfully never had the opportunity to meet Julie but reading this announcement was so impressed with her short lived life on earth. There is absolutely no doubt that she was welcomed into heaven with the open arms of our Lord and Savior.
To Julie’s family members, I am deeply sorry for your loss of such a special person. You will each miss her terribly. Justin, I have known you since birth and have kept up with you briefly. It sounds like you picked a real winner to share life with. She left you with a part of her in both your children. I’m certain she left with no doubt that they are in perfect hands. Karen (sister),
We had such a short time not only as co-workers but as good friends. During this time I had no idea of your connection with Justin and his family. I’m sure they know how special you are. I recently lost one of my two sisters and it’s a loss like no other. I’m so sorry that you are having to suffer through this and will pray for your comfort during your grieving process.
Each and everyone of you will be in my thoughts and prayers daily. And again, I am so sorry for the loss of this remarkable young lady.

In 1996, l became the principal of West Central Elementary. l remember interviewing a number of candidates for upper grades positions. l remember thinking that l had found one of the greatest teachers l would ever be blessed to work with in Julie Ewton. She was hired instantly . Immediately she was a leader and a team player. She bought into the belief that all students could learn. She was always looking for ways to “ make everything better”. She taught those same beliefs to her students. Entering her classroom was like a mini society where everyone had equal rights, all opinions were valued, and your home address did not matter. She made teaching fun. Her students always wanted to achieve to the highest level as their way of giving back to Miss Ewton. As principal, l never had to worry about Julie’s professionalism. She was game ready everyday!! I remember in 2007 when Julie respectfully asked for a transfer to Floyd County Schools my heart stopped. She was truly missed after her transfer as she will be now but West Central was blessed because of the many labors of love she left behind. I pray that she got the opportunity to supervise/mentor other teachers in the field not only as an opportunity now for her legacy to continue but more importantly for those teachers to continue Julie’s heartbeat. Every student needs to genuinely feel and know just how much their teacher’s heart beats the same love and care that Julie sprinkled everyday on her students.

My heart is so sadden to read this. I am so sorry to hear this. My heart goes out to Julie’s immediate family, as well as, Pat and Karen. I was so shocked to read this. Pat and Karen I am so so sorry, if there is anything I can do please let me know. She was so friendly and had a beautiful smile. She was a fighter and I’ll never forget the video on Facebook a couple of years ago when she accomplished her treatment and rung that bell and did her dance. To be absent in body is to be present with the Lord. I pray for God’s peace, comfort, and understanding to you all.

Pat, I am so so sorry to read of Julie’s passing. The years have flown by so fast since we last had contact with each other, but I still remember getting to know your girls back then. “Three beautiful girls, who really loved their Mom. Know that you’re in my thoughts and prayers. God Bless you, Johnny, Karen and all your family. I’ll always remember our sweet friendship of back in those 80”s days. Such blessed good memories.
