Mary Karen Barfield

1930 - 2025

Mary Karen Barfield, aged 95, of Rome, Georgia, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home on December 10, 2025, surrounded by her beloved family. Born on April 30, 1930, in Morgan, Georgia, Mary always carried with her a deep connection to her roots and a passion for family that was evident throughout her life.

Mary was known for her gentle spirit and unwavering strength. Mary retired from Rome Fruit & Produce Company after dedicating 30 years of service. She also had worked for The Rome Braves for some time and loved her Rome Braves and Atlanta Braves team. When she wasn't working, Mrs. Barfield enjoyed playing bingo with her friends at Heatherwood Apartments and lounging around watching The Hallmark Channel and dedicated herself to her family, nurturing loving relationships with all who were fortunate enough to know her.

She was a devoted mother to her daughter, Nan Winkelman (Ben), and cherished her role as grandmother to her grandsons, Chris (Julie) Langford, Justin (Ashley) Langford, Hayden (Jenni- Lyn) Winkelman and Lane (Kalie) Redding, great-grandchildren; Alivia Langford, Ava Langford, Everlee Langford, Grayson Redding, Camdyn Redding and Tatum Redding as well as a special bonus daughter, Donna Bentley. Mary's love and wisdom will be profoundly missed by them and all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Wallace Alfred Barfield. They were united in marriage on October 3, 1952, sharing a life filled with love and partnership. Mary also leaves behind the memories of her parents, Willie Wade Beard and Nannie Maude Avera Beard, and her siblings: Dennard (Dot) Beard, Kenneth 'Bo' (Maxine) Beard, Willie Dean (Wynelle) Beard, Lucille (Buddy) Rice, and Mavis (Billy) Fulford.

A graveside service to honor and celebrate the life of Mrs. Mary Karen Barfield will be held on Friday, December 12, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens, located at 2549 Shorter Avenue, Rome, GA 30165.

The family will receive friends for a visitation on Friday, December 12, 2025 from 11:00 AM until 12:30 PM at Salmon Funeral Home & Crematory before processing to the cemetery for the graveside service.

The family of Mrs. Barfield would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the wonderful staff at Heyman Hospice who went above and beyond during their time spent with her. The care and compassion provided was top notch and we will forever be eternally grateful and thankful.

Mary's legacy will live on through the love she imparted and the countless memories shared, reminding us all of the importance of family and the enduring bonds of love.
