Richmond August Wollstein, age 72, passed away peacefully at his home in Chesterfield, Virginia, on October 12, 2025.
Born in
Rome, Georgia, on November 29, 1952, Richmond was the eldest son of Leo Arnold Wollstein, Sr. and Sarah Elizabeth "Betty" Routledge Wollstein. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John Joseph Wollstein and Leo Arnold Wollstein, Jr.; nephew, Leo Arnold "Baby Leo" Wollstein III; and niece, Katie Kinsey Odom.
The second oldest of eleven children, Richmond embraced his role with love, patience, and strength. He attended St. Mary's School and East Rome High School.
Richmond pursued a lifelong love of learning, earning degrees from multiple universities including: The University of West Georgia, Berry College, Virginia State University, and Virginia Commonwealth University. Inspired by his brother Stephen's legal career, he earned his law degree from the University of Richmond.
He practiced law with the Elliott Law Firm in Colonial Heights and later served as a judge in the Virginia family court system. A dedicated supporter of education, he established the Betty R. Wollstein Nursing Scholarship at Georgia Highlands College in honor of his mother, Betty, and her career as a nurse in Rome.
Richmond made Chesterfield his home for over 40 years. There, he met Glenda Carter and together they raised two children, Adam and Charlie Rihanna. He was a devoted father and a loyal Georgia Bulldogs fan, known for his red sweater and black pants on game days.
He is survived by Glenda, Adam, Charlie Rihanna; siblings Carlin, Michael, Rebecca, Helene, Mary, David, Stephen, and Ted; sister-in-law Faye Wollstein; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He is deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew his kindness, wisdom, and upstanding character. Often described as a true Southern gentleman, Richmond lived a life marked by generosity, integrity, and love.
A private family Mass was held on November 26, 2025, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rome. A memorial niche has been engraved for him at Myrtle Hill Cemetery Mausoleum.
