Alice Nickerson Obituary
Alice was born in Ava, NY at the family homestead on December 1, 1934 a daughter of Clarence S. and Edna A. Widrick Ruth. She grew up in Ava and graduated from West Leyden Central School in 1952. Alice was united in marriage to Lyle Nickerson Sr. on February 6, 1953 in Weatherford, TX. Lyle was in the Air Force and the couple lived in Lake Charles, LA and Riverside, CA. After his honorable discharge the couple moved to their present home in the Town of Lee. Lyle died on April 14, 2012. For many years Alice was employed at Griffiss Air Force Base as a secretary and stenographer. She loved country music, the NY Yankees and NASCAR. One of her proudest moments was when she won the Powder Puff Race at the Utica Rome Speedway in 1963.
Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Douglas Nickerson, Lee Center and Lyle Jr. and Theresa Nickerson, Boonville; daughter, Deborah Benware, Carthage; grandchildren, Melissa and Todd Bartowiak, Dale Jr. and Kimberly Munn, Nicholas and Renee Munn and Troy Nickerson; eight great grandchildren; one brother and two sisters, David Ruth, Betty Lutz and Tillie Nickerson; special nephew, Tom (Lauri) Nickerson and special friends, Doris Scales, Cindy Pugh, Eleanor Kaido, Eleanor Mathis and Pat Turner. Alice was predeceased by an infant son, Barry in 1955 and her siblings James, Richard, Mark, Karl, Donald Ruth and Margaret Edwards.
Alice's family would like to thank the visiting nurses for the exceptional care given to her.
