Allan Hoffert Obituary

CONSTABLEVILLE/BOONVILLE - Allan J. Hoffert, 91, of Boonville, formerly of Constableville, passed away on Sunday evening, August 24, 2025 at Sunset Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born on July 29, 1934 in Ava, a son of the late Albert Joseph and Magdelina Mathis Hoffert. He attended West Leyden Central School before moving with his family to the farm on Bailey Road in Constableville, where he attended a rural country school on the West Road. Allan worked the farm alongside his family before being drafted into the United States Army in 1957, where he served until his honorable discharge on March 25, 1959.

On July 1, 1963 he married Alice M. Hance and the couple resided on Bailey Road in Constableville. For a brief time, Allan worked at Monroe's Furniture Factory in Boonville before beginning his employment with AMF in Lowville. After 35-1/2 years, he retired from AMF in July of 1995. For many years after retiring, the couple spent their winters in Florida before deciding to reside in New York year-round again to be closer to their family. Later, they moved to Lee Center to live with their daughter, Dulcie.

After his beloved wife Alice passed away on October 22, 2009, Allan moved back to the Bailey Road until 2019, before moving in with his daughter, Crystal, on the Brown Road. Most recently, he had been a resident of Sunset Nursing Home and Rehabilitation.

Allan enjoyed hunting, playing horseshoes, snowmobiles, and in his younger years he enjoyed square dancing.

He was a member of the Charles J. Love Post American Legion #406.

Allan is survived by five children, Terrence Hoffert and his wife Helen of Port Leyden, Lawrence Hoffert of Carthage, Crystal Jones and her husband Stanley Jr. of Boonville, Allan Hoffert Jr. and his wife Paula of Constableville, and Dulcie Zimmer and her companion Brian of Poland; 20 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jim and Pam McCauley; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Alice; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one brother and sister-in-law, Aaron and Carol Hoffert.

There are no calling hours or funeral service. Private burial will be in Talcottville Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are in the care of Mills Funeral Home, Boonville.

Allan's family gratefully declines flowers and asks that memorial contributions be made in his name to the Lewis County Humane Society, PO Box 682, Lowville, NY 13367.
