Antonia Nagurney Obituary

Antonia "Toni" Nagurney, age 59, of Rome, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2023, at home, with her loving family by her side after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Toni was born in Rome on October 8, 1964, to Anthony and Carolyn Cavalleri Franco, and graduated from Rome Free Academy. On July 2, 1983, she married her high school sweetheart, John Nagurney, and became a military wife, traveling all over the United States. Together, they raised and shared their three boys. She later received her nursing degree from St. Elizabeth's College of Nursing.

Toni was an employee of Rome Health for 38 years and was admired and loved by many. She was extremely accomplished and very passionate about her career as a nurse and continued to prove care and compassion to those struggling with their own battles, even as she struggled with her own. She was a dog mom to three yorkies, that she loved with every fiber of her being, and numerous others who have passed through the years. She enjoyed camping trips, motorcycles rides, and shopping.

Toni is survived by her loving husband, John; sons, Mathew (Sheena), John Anthony, and Travis; grandchildren, Brennan, Lily, Kinley, Mila, and Brielynn; parents, Anthony and Carolyn; brothers Francisco Franco and Mark (Christie) Franco; sister, Angela (Greg) Shaver; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Deb from Hospice and Palliative Care, her work family at Rome Health, and those who continued to follow her throughout her battle. Also, a special thank you to her medical team from Albany Medical: Dr. Meleis, Dr. Guiliano, and Dr. Gody; and Dr. Cesana from Rome.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday at 11 Am, at the Church of St. John the Baptist, with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, on Wednesday from 4 to 7 PM.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care and/or ASPCA.
