Arthur Lyman Obituary

Arthur Lyman, age 90, passed away peacefully at Rome Health Residential Care Facility. Arthur Lyman, a long-time resident of Rome, was born in Adams, NY, on December 21, 1932, to Kenneth and Winifred Lyman. He graduated from Oriskany Central School in 1951.
Arthur met Ruth Kipfer at a dance in the local Grange Hall. They both loved to dance and religiously followed the various polka bands. A year later they were married in Trinity United Church of Christ on June 20, 1953. Since marrying into the church family, Arthur became an active church member serving on council, acting as a Church ambassador, and singing in the choir.
Arthur had an active social life as well. Memberships included: Trenton Fish and Game Club, Masonic Lodge, Camden Seniors, Steuben Lodge and the Westernville choir.  He loved to hunt, fish, travel, snowmobile and spend time at their family camp at Henderson Harbor.
Arthur served in the National Guard. He worked at Rome Cable for 34 years then an additional 10 years at Rome Agway. In addition to his regular jobs he spent many early morning hours plowing snow for his brother-in-law, Albert Kipfer.
Arthur is survived by his children, David Lyman and Susan Gatley; his daughter-in-law, Cynthia Lyman, and son-in-law, Paul Gatley; his grandchildren, Julie and Pete Gelinas, Dominick and Corrine Favata, Carmen Favata, Heather and Scott Hewlett, Sarah and Carl Barcomb, and Caitlyn and Brandon Montross. Art leaves 10 great-grandchildren to carry on his legacy.
We want to profusely thank the staff at Rome Health Residential Care Facility. They genuinely cared for Art and he for them.
Dad loved his dog Sarge. Dad would support any donations be made to the Humane Society of Rome.
All are invited to visitation from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday, February 5, 2023, at Strong-Burns & Sprock Funeral Home, 7751 Merrick Road, Rome, NY. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest at Westernville Cemetery in the spring.

I would like to extend my sympathy to the family. I worked with Art at Rome Cable for 22 years. Until the commencement of the strike in 87, Art was always a gentleman when we talked, and he was liked by all who knew him throughout the plant. I last saw Art at the Agway Store when I went to pick up a mower for a friend. We talked about old times until the Mgr. came in and broke it up. I am sorry that I never saw him after Agway closed, but I will always have memories. May he shine down upon all of us.
