Cynthia Goggin, lovingly known as Cindi to her many friends and affectionately called George by her family-a nickname given by her father-passed away peacefully on July 20, 2025, at Rome Hospital, with family by her side.
Born on February 4, 1957, in
Rome, New York, Cindi was the daughter of the John and Muriel Goggin. She was a proud graduate of Rome Free Academy, Class of 1975, and remained deeply connected to her classmates, helping organize reunions for many years.
Cindi enjoyed a successful and varied career, including time at Internist group, MetLife and DFAS. She also served as a dedicated Board of Directors member for Urbandale Condominiums, where she brought leadership, community spirit, and a sense of fairness that was deeply appreciated.
Cindi was a vibrant, joyful presence in both the Rome community and in Treasure Island, Florida, where she cherished her time as a snowbird. Her love for music, entertainment, and good company kept her calendar-and her heart-full. Whether you were a lifelong friend or a new acquaintance, you likely heard her proudly recount her experience attending the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid-one of her most treasured memories.
Her Irish spirit was a defining part of her identity; one she celebrated wholeheartedly. She helped organize a memorable family trip to Banteer, County Cork, Ireland, where the family traced their roots and honored their heritage. Her humor, sharp wit, and deep knowledge made her unforgettable to all who met her. And of course, friends and family alike knew "the Cindi Goggin look"-a signature expression she gave when something just didn't sit quite right.
Cindi's friendships were vast and deep, and during her courageous battle with cancer, it was those same friends who stepped in with fierce devotion-driving her to appointments, sitting beside her during treatments, and lifting her spirits every step of the way. She faced her illness with the same energy and fight that she brought to every other part of her life with no complaints.
She was deeply committed to the Relay for Life event in Rome, volunteering for many years and inspiring others with her strength and determination.
Cindi is survived by her sister Ann and brother-in-law Bob Arutt of Chapel Hill, NC, along with many beloved cousins from the Adey and Goggin families, and her large circle of friends
She was predeceased by her parents, John and Muriel Goggin; her aunt, Lorna Froschauer ; and her cherished friend, Lori Losowski.
Cindi's light, laughter, and legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
