Fern B. Major

Fern B. Major, 97, of North Court Street, Wampsville, passed away on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Pratts Hollow on August 7, 1926, she was the daughter of Guy E. and Eveline Morrow Bartlett and was the last surviving of their thirteen children. A resident of Wampsville since 1974, relocating from Oneida, she was a graduate of Stockbridge Valley Central School. She married Harry F. Major, in Stockbridge, on January 18, 1947. Mr. Major died on June 30, 2016. Prior to her retirement, Fern was employed with the New York State Police as a clerk and had previously been employed by the former Oneida Valley National Bank, also as a clerk. She was a member of the Conquest Christian Center Church, in Canastota, where she was a prayer warrior and always had a prayer list. Fern loved her home and in all aspects of life, was Christian orientated.

Surviving are one daughter, Debbie (Mark) McKeehan, of LeRoy; son, Dale D. (his companion, Carol Smith) Major, of Sherrill; several nieces and nephews; and her friend and caregiver for the past six years, Kit O'Hara.

She was predeceased by two daughters-in-law, Sharon Major and Shelly Major; sisters, Hazel Murrell, Violet Bartlett, Gladys Kratzer, Nettie Grabow and Norene McIntosh; and brothers, Robert, Archie, Perry, Donald, Richard, Sheldon and Ralph.

Funeral Services will be held at 1 PM on Friday, September 1, 2023, from the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 260 Main Street, Oneida, with the Reverends Jerry Saliba and Charles Motley, officiating. Interment will be made in Oneida Castle Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11 AM to 1 PM, prior to the funeral service.
