Herman Campanaro Obituary

Herman Campanaro, 89, of Rome, passed away on Tuesday, September 9, 2025.

He was born on December 14, 1935 in Rome and was the son of Herman T. and Jennie Tallarino Campanaro. Herman attended Rome schools and was a 1953 graduate of Rome Free Academy. On April 21, 1956 he married the love of his life, Joan Mistretta in the St. John the Baptist Church, a blessed union of 65 years until her passing in 2021. He proudly served with the US Army from 1956 - 1959. Herman was a Captain in the Rome Fire Department and was a partner in the Rome Amusement Vending Company. In his younger days, Herman loved remodeling and fixing things, as well as hunting, snowmobiling and golf. He was a parishioner of St. John the Baptist Church.

Herman's son-in-law Dan summed up his life best: "He was one of the greatest men I have ever known. He was quiet, humble, loved his family above all else....He was loving, caring, strong, and had a great sense of humor, and was extremely generous in every way. " He truly earned his family's love, respect, and admiration and will be missed by all who were lucky enough to have had him in their lives.

Herman is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law Linda and Robert Bonanza Jr. and Elaine and Daniel Falatico Jr., both of Rome; his son Vince Campanaro of Peoria AZ; grandchildren Jason Bonanza, Santino Bonanza, Salvatore Bonanza, Vincent Bonanza, Anthony Lopiccolo, Gianni Falatico, and Daniel Falatico; great-grandchildren Nicco Bonanza, Giovanni Bonanza, Siena Bonanza, Tino Bonanza, Gennaro Bonanza, Nina Bonanza, Salvatore Bonanza Jr., Sophia Bonanza, Alena Bonanza, and Amelia Lopiccolo. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law Robert and Phyllis Campanaro, sister-in-law Frieda Campanaro, sister-n-law Monica Johnson of AZ, nieces, nephews, and many good friends. He is predeceased by his parents, his wife Joan, his brother Michael Campanaro Sr., and his brother-in-law Joseph Johnson.

Private funeral services will be held Saturday, October 4, 2025 at the Bottini Funeral Home, 120 W. Embargo Street. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery.
