Janet Catherine Mizzi, age 98, passed away peacefully with her eldest daughter and namesake, Janet, by her side on November 17, 2025.

Janet was born in the Bronx, New York the youngest of 4 children, born to George and Wilhelmina White. Being the youngest she was the only member of her family born in the United States. Her parents and siblings, Winnie, George, and William were all born in Scotland prior to coming to America. Janet was tenderly referred to by her family as their "Yankee".

Janet was extremely good with numbers and held several bookkeeping positions throughout her career. She was also a very good card player and square dancer; other pastimes included knitting, reading, and watching almost anything on PBS.

As her siblings grew older Janet became their ultimate caretaker providing assistance and support, they needed to negotiate their day.

Janet's 2 daughters, Janet Thomas and Mary Mizzi Wilcox were beloved, and she took tremendous pride in them.

Along with her daughters she also had great affection for Peter, Paul, John, and Mary Carbonara whom she cared for as her own.

Janet was predeceased by her husband John and her siblings.

Janet leaves her 2 daughters, 5 grandchildren, John and Dan Hinman, Allen, Allison and Andrew Wilcox, and 3 great grandchildren, Vivienne Connell and Fiona and Abraham Wilcox. Janet also leaves a special niece, Jean Michael.

When you live a life to 98 you outlive most of your contemporaries, Janet was lucky enough to have good friends Joan and Audrey still in her life.

At Janet's request there will be no calling hours, instead her family will hold a private celebration of her life on New Year's Eve, for Auld Lang Syne.

Heartfelt thanks go out to the Brookyln Household at the Masonic Care Community where Janet resided for the last several years; in particular household nurse, Patty and Dr. Oteleanu for their expertise along with the numerous aides who were so supportive and caring.

As family friend Marsha Imer said of Janet's passing: "She burned brightly for so many good years."

How true, rest in peace Mom, we all loved you very much.
