Janice Shaffer Obituary

Janice Flora Shaffer, 79, of Verona, died on Monday, July 15, 2024.

She was born on June 29, 1945 in St. Albans, Vermont. She was the daughter of Kenneth and Doris Menard Lawyea. She graduated from Bellows Free Academy, in St. Albans, VT, in 1963. On January 17, 1966, she married Richard R. Shaffer in St. Albans, VT. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2016. She worked as an LPN at Oneida City Hospital, for 30 years, retiring in 2008.

Janice was a loving friend, mother and wife and will be greatly missed by all.

She is survived by her husband, Richard; three sons and their spouses, Kenneth and Jacenta Shaffer, Christopher and Estelle Shaffer and Robert Shaffer and H. Craig Neel. She is also survived by a brother, Howard Lawyea; sister, Gail Leburg (Lawyea Venus); and three grandchildren.

In lieu of services, the family will be having a Celebration of Life, to be determined at a later date. There are no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or American Cancer Society in the name of the deceased.

I'm so sorry. Jan was a wonderful friend to my mom. Often when I was visiting Oneida we would all go shopping together. She always brought laughter and a smile. She will be greatly missed.
