Judith (Keib) Obituary

On October 16, 2025, Judith (Judy) Rose Keib Black of Whitesboro, NY, set down her needle and thread for the last time - leaving behind a legacy as warm and colorful as the quilts she lovingly stitched. She was 86.

Judy's life was woven from compassion, laughter, and quiet strength. A teacher by profession and by nature, she shared her gifts with students, family, neighbors, and friends. She believed in the beauty of handmade things, the power of kindness, and the comfort of a good porch chat on a summer evening.

Born August 14, 1939 to Kathleen and Omar Keib in Poughkeepsie, NY. Judy carried her family's warmth and dedication into everything she did. A graduate of Oriskany High School, she earned her Bachelor's degree in Home Economics Education from SUNY Oneonta and later earned a Master's degree in Reading. She taught both subjects in public schools - helping young people discover both skill and confidence. It was during her first teaching assignment in the Colton-Pierrepont Central School District, that she met Wilbur Black, her husband of 63 years.

She filled her days with family, friends, and creativity: leading a den of Cub Scouts, supporting the Catholic Youth Organization at St. Paul's, advising KE Society, gathering with her fellow Home Bureau and Red Hat members, and joyfully crafting quilts, sweaters, socks, and memories. She enjoyed being outdoors - camping, boating, and spending time at the family's camp on Lake Sacandaga. She never missed a game, recital, concert, or play in which her children or grandchildren were performing. Her laughter brightened every room, her kindness soothed every heart, and her competitive streak at Phase 10, Rummikub, and Pitch kept everyone on their toes.

Judy was predeceased by her husband Wilbur; her brother, Stephen; and her parents, Kathleen and Omar. She is lovingly remembered by her children Michael of Golden, CO, Brent of Holland Patent, NY, Courtney (Karl) Swisher of Ballston Spa, NY, and Trevor of Saratoga Springs, NY; grandchildren Finley, Connor, Mathew, Morgan, Keira, Justin (Jacquelyn), Colden, and Hunter; her sisters-in-law Bonnie and Elaine; brother-in-law, Colburn, and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will carry her spirit forward.

A visitation will be held Sunday, October 26, from 2-4 p.m. at Dimbleby Funeral Home in Whitesboro, followed by a dinner reception at Monarch at 4:30 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, October 27, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Catholic Church. A burial will follow in Watertown. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to American Stroke Association.

Her hands made beautiful things. Her heart made life better for everyone she touched. May she rest in eternal peace.
