Mariel Richardson Obituary

Mariel Jean Richardson left this life for her heavenly home on May 31st, 2024 at the age of 91 in Owasso, Oklahoma.

Born April 18, 1933 in Lenawee County, Michigan, she was the daughter of Anna May Burnett-McRobert and Ralph Edwin McRobert.

After graduating Valedictorian in her class at Onsted Community School she continued her education with a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Michigan State University.

Marrying Curtis Richardson in 1956, they settled in Van Hornesville New York where she taught Home Economics at Owen D Young Central School until retirement in 1990. They were both active members of the community, Mariel serving many roles in the Van Hornesville United Methodist Church, including Sunday School Superintendent. After retirement they enjoyed traveling the world, with several trips to Europe, hiking the Grand Canyon, camping, RVing, joining in many tours and solo adventures, especially to National Parks.

Their greatest enjoyment was spending time with family and friends. In 2017 they moved to Owasso, Oklahoma to be near family. Mariel graciously took on the role as caregiver for Curtis as his health began to decline. After his passing in 2023 she dedicated herself to visitation and caring for many of her neighbors in the Baptist Village, as well as continuing her ministry of encouraging others around the country through cards and letters. Mariel will long be remembered for the innumerable birthday, anniversary and sympathy cards she would send every year as well as her much anticipated Christmas letter updates.

She was a dedicated Christian, eager to join in Bible studies, attending Church on the Move in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and was active in sharing her faith with whomever she met. Her open personality drew everyone she met to her instantly.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, brother and sister-in-law Roger and Mary Ann McRobert, daughter Cynthia Lu Richardson, and husband of 66 years Curtis Richardson. Surviving relatives include son and daughter-in-law, Keith & Lynn Richardson, grandchildren Jennifer & her spouse Tim Berry, Rachel & her spouse Aaron Meador and great grandchildren Markayla Berry, Norah Meador and Silas Meador.

Memorial contributions can be made to hospiceofgreencountry.org or the Van Hornesville Untied Methodist Church.
