Marjorie M. Vanderhoof, 94 of Rome, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2023, after a brief illness. She was born on August 27, 1928, in Rome, NY, the daughter of the late Edward and Lydia Mae Evans McLaughlin. Marge graduated from RFA, Class of 1946. She was united in marriage to Thomas Vanderhoof in the First United Methodist Church on November 19, 1949. Thomas predeceased her on March 5, 2003, Marge was a member of the First Methodist Church, American Legion of Rome Ladies Auxiliary and the 40&8 in Westmoreland.
Marge was an amazing mom, grandma and great grandma. Her family was her world and she was our Dad's caregiver when his health failed. She never missed her son's sports events and there were many Little League games she could be found working in the concession stand. She was there for all her children's events as well as for her grandchildren's too. She was a loyal Mets fan and growing up every televised game was in our living room. Her heart was huge and so was her beautiful smile. Mom made each of our birthdays special. Her Christmas decorating was beyond gorgeous and her holiday meals were amazing. She was a wonderful cook who prepared the best dinners every day. Mom loved to laugh and we had so many fun times growing up. Her favorite thing to do in her later years was to go for ice cream at Nicky Doodles. Our world has forever been changed and we will miss her every day.
Marge is survived by her beloved children, Thomas Vanderhoof and Michelle Brophy of Henderson, NV, Michael and Denise Vanderhoof of Rome, Cheryl and Kevin Mallard of Clinton, Jo Ann and Paul Egan of Cazenovia and Jan and Dane Terpone of Silverdale, WA; twelve cherished grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; special cousins, Bud, Gail and Sally; nephew, Rob Riggleman; along with her feline companion, Missy. Marge was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Beverly and Joseph Riggleman.
Marge's family would like to thank Brookdale Senior Living, Clinton, St. Luke's Hospital and St. Luke's Home for the compassionate care they gave her these last few months.
