Melvin Bush Obituary
Melvin grew up in Whitesboro, NY and attended church at St. Paul's Catholic Church where he was an altar boy. In 1958 he graduated from Whitesboro High School, and shortly after he graduated, he married his sweetheart, Johanne Dam-Bush and were married for 66 great years. For most of his career he owned his own business of underground utilities called Melvin Bush Construction, Inc., which was run for 44 years. In his spare time, he enjoyed drag racing across the nation with his racing team, Mel Bush Motor Sports. He also bought antique cars and had them restored, so he could take them to the antique car shows.
Survivors include his wife, Johanne Dam-Bush; sons, Stephen Bush, Scott (Kim) Bush, Kevin (Nicole) Bush; grandchildren, Jennifer Bush, Michael (Jessica) Bush, Taylor Bush, Jordyn Bush, Jax Bush; great-grandchildren; Makayla Bush, Jaxson Beaumont, Kylee Beaumont, Riley Bush, Autumn Bush; brothers, John (Elaine) Bush and Kenneth (Rose Bush). And several nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his parents Augustus and Mary Bush; stepdad, Dave Chamberlain; brothers, William Bush and Ronald Bush.
Calling hours will be Thursday, January 8th, 2025, from 2pm to 4pm at Dimbleby Funeral Homes, Inc., 40 Main Street, Whitesboro, NY. A funeral mass will be held at St. Paul's Catholic Church at 11am on Friday, January 9th, 2025. The burial will immediately follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
The family wishes to extend a thanks to Treasure Coast Hospice and Johanne would like to give a special thank you to her granddaughter Jennifer Bush for caring for her grandfather in his final days to take the ease from her.

Fortunately I had the pleasure of working with Mel and Johanne on their race team, They were more than an employer they always treated me like family. Mel had a great passion for drag racing and had great stories from the old days all the way through the mid 2000's until he retired. Mel's already missed.

Sorry to hear of Mel´s passing. Just talked to him at my sister´s funeral 3 months ago. We had a nice talk since I haven´t seen him in over 50 years. I remember my mother talking of how he would tease her often. He and my sister were good friends from school. Rest in peace Mel.
