Roger Connor Obituary

Roger Dennis Connor III, of Rome, passed away, peacefully, in the company of family and friends, on August 21, 2024, at St. Jospeh's Medical Center, Syracuse.

Roger was born on September 14, 1955, in Waterbury, CT and is direct descendant of his famous great uncle, Roger Connor, a Waterbury baseball legend and member of the Baseball Hall of Fame, Class of 1976. Following graduation from Wolcott High School in 1973, Roger trained at the Great Lakes Naval Base as a Navy Corpsman. After serving in the Navy, Roger worked in a variety of different fields and lived in various places including Connecticut, Florida, Tennessee, California and New York.

Having faced and overcome personal addiction issues, Roger became actively involved with helping others, especially through AA and obtained Substance Abuse Counselor certification in 2009. He spent much of his adult life in Monterey, CA. During this time, he reconnected with his son, after almost 15 years, and was able to help care for his elderly parents with his sister, Debra.

In 2015, Roger retired and moved to Rome, fulfilling his dream of living close to his son and family. Roger enjoyed music, the Mets, playing cards with the guys and the company of his son, Roger, grandson, Fernando, stepgrandchildren, Ramon and Lily, and his very good friend, William Gruby. After a stroke in late 2021, Roger spent his last years in the caring and comfortable community of New Burton Homestead in Rome.

Roger was predeceased by his parents, Roger and Laurene (Mulpeter) Connor; and stepmother, Vilma (Petronio) Connor.

Roger is survived by his son, Roger D. Connor IV and his wife, Lauren and grandson, Fernando Connor, of Rome, NY; five siblings and their spouses, Debra and Theodore Kaczmar, of Monterey, CA, Richard and Lana Lebel, of New Bedford, MA, Kevin and Regina Connor, of Eastham, MA, Lori and David Dietsch, of Kensington, CT and Mark and Marta Connor, of Glen Carbon, IL; as well as nine nieces and nephews; and ten great-nieces and nephews.
