Stone Mercurio Obituary

Stone Mercurio passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 18th, 2023. Our beautiful boy was a son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, but most importantly, a friend to all. Although his final moments were tragic, we choose to remember him for the inspiring and meaningful life he lived.
Stone, where are we supposed to begin? There is not enough room on this paper for you to properly grasp the beautiful soul that is in this boy. There will never be the right words that could possibly encapsulate the massive presence Stone carried and the impact he made on everyone around him. There are not enough words in the world that could ever describe how blessed we are to have known him. Stone gave us so much joy and so many sweet memories that we and so many will cherish forever. Although this is impossible. It's our job to share his story and for you to remember it.
He was a charismatic, adventurous, beautiful soul. He was the type of person to do anything for anyone. Stone touched many lives and molded the lives of the people around him for the better.
Whenever anybody needed anything, he was the first to spring into action. Every adventure with Stone was a memory that will be permanently embedded in our hearts. Stone was always the first person to get people out of their comfort zone, endure a tough challenge or rigorous exploration of something big, little or random that somehow found a way to be the most amazing moments.
You didn't have to be around him all the time; months could go by but everything would always pick back up where it left off. He was still the same warm, comforting, glowing Stone. He taught us so many core values that we need to carry into the rest of our lives for him.
He loved Rome more than anything. We would always tease him for it, but he said it was the best possible place to grow up and he loved the community. Stone and his close friends biked the entirety of the city but there was ALWAYS more to explore. Everything and anything he needed was just a bike ride away. Cherish and celebrate Rome the way he did because you're lucky to live in such a beautiful city.
He left behind his Mom and Dad; sister, Carmella; and his Mimi and Poppy, who loved him more than anything in this world. He left the rest of his family and his best friends, who he considered brothers; and our community. Words can't describe how much he will be missed by all of us.
Stone would want us to express to you how much mental health matters. How important it is to be there for your friends and your family. To treat everyone the way he did, with kindness.
The Mercurio family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Rome Community Foundation, 301 North Washington Street, Rome, NY 13440 to start a skate park for kids like Stone in the area.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, April 24th, 2023, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 7751 Merrick Rd., Rome. A Funeral Mass and Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, 210 E. Dominick St., Rome, with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio officiating.

I am so sorry for your loss. I only knew stone for a short time. He was in kindergarten with my foster daughter and they had such a great bond. They looked out for each other and to me that meant the world. She had such a hard time making friends and she just loved him. My heart breaks for you is this tragic time but knowing all the impact he made on so many lives in his life is amazing and you had a very special young man

Dear Mercurio Family,

First of all, our heart breaks for each one of you. We are so very sorry for your loss and your pain.
Our son Andrew pledged together with your son Stone as two new members of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity at Clarkson University this past semester. Even though they met each other just recently, Andrew referred to Stone as his new brother. In this time of great sadness, looking back on beautiful memories made can provide peace and comfort. Wishing your family courage, and lots of love at this time. May we continue to pray for Stone and his family: ¨Eternal rest grant unto Stone, OLord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. May almighty God bless us with his peace and strength, in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.¨

The Gómez Family - (Andrew L. Gómez-Clarckson University Student)

¨May The Road Rise Up To Meet You¨

May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face; the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Dear Mercurio Family,
My sister Caroline (Lynch) Adami and Jesse my Brother-in-Law shared with us Lynch sisters the sad news of Stone's passing. Caroline shared so many fond memories the Adami family have had with your family. Us Lynch sisters only wish we could have had the opportunity to have met Stone ourselves. You should be so proud of how much Stone has accomplished in his short life as well as the forever examples he has left on others to try and live by. God Bless.

Stone encouraged me to dedicate myself to diving and become the best diver I can be. I would not be the same if not for him. All though he was on a different team than I, we dove together and not against one another.

I did not know Stone although I know many who did and my heart truly breaks for all of you, friends and family alike. You were all truly blessed to have had such a fine young man in your lives. When I lost my husband several years ago, our son was given a poem from a friend which we carry with us and hold its message close to our hearts. I pray it will provide the same comfort for all of you that it has for my family.

Death Is Nothing At All

Death is nothing at all.
I have only slipped away to the next room.
I am I and you are you.
Whatever we were to each other,
That, we still are.

Call me by my old familiar name.
Speak to me in the easy way
which you always used.
Put no difference into your tone.
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow.

Laugh as we always laughed
at the little jokes we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me. Pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household word
that it always was.
Let it be spoken without effect.
Without the trace of a shadow on it.

Life means all that it ever meant.
It is the same that it ever was.
There is absolute unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of mind
because I am out of sight?

I am but waiting for you.
For an interval.
Somewhere. Very near.
Just around the corner.

All is well.

Nothing is past; nothing is lost. One brief moment and all will be as it was before only better, infinitely happier and forever we will all be one together with Christ.
