A.B. King 1939—2021
A.B. King of Rockford departed this earthly life April 7, 2021. He was born March 9, 1939 in Okolona, MS; the son of Dewey and Rosie Lee King. A.B. lived in Rockford over 50 years coming from Mississippi. He married the former Barbara Murphy in Rockford on August 11, 1973. A.B was employed as a supervisor by Olson Pattern Foundry 32 years before retiring. He was a member of New Zion Missionary Baptist Church. A.B. was a member of the Abrasive Engineering Society and a Old Car restoring group. He graduated from B.F. Ford High School in New Albany and attended Rock Valley College.
A.B. leaves to cherish many loving memories, his devoted wife, Barbara; son, Alvin King and daughter, Kimberly King; five grandchildren, Nia, Elijah, Jonah, Savannah and Noah; three siters, Gladys Ivy, Eteria McWilliams, and Canary Gardner; a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends he was predeceased by his parents, three brothers, and two sisters.
Moving visitation will be held at Carl E. Ponds Funeral Home Inc. 200 N. Johnston Ave. Tuesday, April 20, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Burial in Willwood Burial Park. Private services will be held..
