Anthony Maggio Obituary

Anthony J. Maggio Sr., 89 ROCKFORD - Anthony J. Maggio Sr., 89, of Rockford passed away at 3:03 p.m. Dec. 16, 2010, in his home in the loving care of his family after a brief illness. He was born June 2, 1921 in Sambucca, Sicily, to Lenardo and Rosalia Maggio. He lived most of his life in Rockford, coming here from Sicily. He graduated from East High School in 1941 and attended the University of Houston. He married Isabelle Hart on Aug. 24, 1963, in Rockford. He was employed as a machinist by Borg Warner Mechanics for 35 years. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was a member of St. Edward Church, American Legion and VFW. Tony enjoyed woodworking, gardening, music and especially his grandchildren. He most deeply loved the Lord and his Catholic faith. Survivors include wife, Isabelle; children, Anthony Jr. (Deb), James (Tammy), Denise, Debbie (James) Nelson and Roberta (Ken) Kuehner; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; spiritually adopted family, Kim, Vile and Mile; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by Willie Ruth Ball Maggio in 1958, who was the mother of James, Anthony and Ruth Ann Smith; and his son, Thomas Leonard Maggio. Thank you to Dr. Woodman and Heartland Hospice for their tender care. Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21, in St. Edward Church, with visitation from 9:30 a.m. to service time; Father Michael Black will officiate. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date. Arrangements by Gasparini & Oliveri Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 707 Marchesano Drive. Annie, You are in our thoughts and prayers today as you say your final good bys to your beloved Tony. He was a dear man and wonderful friend. Cory and Eric loved going over to your house everyday to see Tony and you. We are sorry we didn't make it out for his funeral but with the bad weather we thought be best we not try to make it.
