Anthony Maggio Sr.

Anthony J. Maggio Sr., 89 ROCKFORD - Anthony J. Maggio Sr., 89, of Rockford passed away at 3:03 p.m. Dec. 16, 2010, in his home in the loving care of his family after a brief illness. He was born June 2, 1921 in Sambucca, Sicily, to Lenardo and Rosalia Maggio. He lived most of his life in Rockford, coming here from Sicily. He graduated from East High School in 1941 and attended the University of Houston. He married Isabelle Hart on Aug. 24, 1963, in Rockford. He was employed as a machinist by Borg Warner Mechanics for 35 years. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was a member of St. Edward Church, American Legion and VFW. Tony enjoyed woodworking, gardening, music and especially his grandchildren. He most deeply loved the Lord and his Catholic faith. Survivors include wife, Isabelle; children, Anthony Jr. (Deb), James (Tammy), Denise, Debbie (James) Nelson and Roberta (Ken) Kuehner; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; spiritually adopted family, Kim, Vile and Mile; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by Willie Ruth Ball Maggio in 1958, who was the mother of James, Anthony and Ruth Ann Smith; and his son, Thomas Leonard Maggio. Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21, in St. Edward Church, with visitation from 9:30 a.m. to service time; Father Michael Black will officiate. Interment in Calvary Cemetery.
