Arlette Wayman Obituary

ARLETTE LORRAINE WAYMAN, 83 ROCKFORD - Arlette Lorraine Wayman, 83, of Rockford passed away Thursday, March 22, 2012, in Rockford. Born Oct. 6, 1928, in Rockford to Martin and Mabel (Olson) Carlson, and graduated from East High School in 1946. She married William Wayman on Feb. 8, 1947. Arlette was an exceptionally thoughtful, caring and generous person, devoted to her parents, husband and family. She never stopped making friends and was blessed with many very dear lifelong friendships. Activities with those friends and family members kept her too busy for hobbies! Instead, Arlette loved to be with people; playing cards with her card clubs, attending symphony concerts, going to plays, enjoying lunches out with friends and hosting innumerable family birthday parties and dinners. No one ever left her home hungry! Arlette enjoyed traveling. She spent many happy vacations with her husband, Bill, and family on Sanibel Island in Florida. She and Bill took memorable trips to Hawaii and Sweden, and often visited family in Tennessee, Minnesota and California. As recently as three years ago, Arlette fulfilled a lifelong dream of going on an Alaskan cruise. A charter member of Beth Eden United Methodist Church, she played piano and taught Sunday school for a number of years and was always quick to help out when a need arose. Arlette was a long-time employee of Pierce Chemical Co., and in what would have been her "retirement" years, started a second career at the Winnebago County Assessor's Office until her reluctant retirement at the age of 80! She continued to volunteer at the front desk until her health prevented her from doing so. Survived by her children, Penny (Tom) Hyland, Judy (Bill) Blank and Bill (Shannon McHugh) Wayman; grandchildren, Lori (Chris) Beyer, Jim (Tausha) Markell, Amanda Hyland, Billy Wayman and Cari Wayman; great-grandchildren, Cam Beyer, Kenzie Beyer, Jim Markell, Erin Markell and Keaton Markell; nephews and families, Mike (Margaret) Carlson and Richard (Ronnie) Carlson. Predeceased by her parents; husband; and brothers, Will and Robert. The family wishes to express special gratitude to the staff of P.A. Peterson Care Center, OSF Hospice and OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center for their exceptional care in Arlette's final days. Also, a special thanks to long-time friend, Marsha Goodheart, for her presence and thoughtfulness. Service at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 27, at Beth Eden United Methodist Church, 3201 Huffman Blvd., Rockford, with the Revs. Douglas Bowden and Michael Carlson officiating. Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 26, at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Road, Machesney Park. Online condolences at sunsetfhmemgardens.com.

Dear Penny, Judy and Billy, I realized your mom was gone when I did not get a Christmas card from her this year. She was an amazing woman with grace and kindness and my mother adored her as a friend. I am sure they are quite busy together in heaven these days.

Dear Penny,
My sincere condolences to you, Judy, Bill and your family on the passing of your mother. I was fortunate to see her even after her retirement when I was in Rockford, and from the time you and I were in school together, she always greeted me with her big smile. She will be greatly missed.

Judy and family -
So sorry to hear about your mom. She was a great lady and I enjoyed working with her during my time at Pierce. I remember introducing her, I believe it was at a shower a long time ago, as "Kathy's old boss" and she corrected me saying she was "Kathy's former boss ~ I'm not that old". We both started laughing and I have never forgotten that, nor did I ever make that mistake again. She was always a good sport laughing at all my comments. Good memories to hold close to your heart.

So sorry for your loss of a great lady. Had the joy of working with her at Pierce for many years-what a caring, loving person. I know she was a blessing in my life and so many other's lives. Peace and comfort of Jesus Christ to all of Arlette's family and friends.

Dear Penny, Judy & Billy, I can't begin to tell you what your mom meant to our whole family. Actually, your dad and Grandma & Grandpa Carlson, too. Being your neighbors for 62 years has been a blessing to us all. Arlette was always there for my parents, helping them any way she could, and always with a smile. Mom will miss her tremendously. We love you all. Lois, Kathy, Jim and Greg Nelson

How blessed I have been to have Nana in my life for 46 years! Not many grandchildren can say that. Of course, it makes it all the harder to lose her. Still I am very grateful for our many years together.
