BETTY JANE NORDVALL OLSON, 93 DASSEL, MN - Betty Jane Nordvall Olson, 93, Dassel, MN, died at 2:15 p.m. Sunday, August 9, 2015, in the Augustana Lakeside Nursing Home of Dassel. Born Feb. 13, 1922, in Rockford, IL, daughter of Alice (Swanson) and C. Arthur Nordvall. Lived most of lifetime in Rockford, until she moved to Minnesota in 2007, when she needed further care to be closer to her daughter. She was married to John (Jack) Nels Olson on June 3, 1948, where they enjoyed almost 40 years of marriage before he passed away on April 7, 1988. They owned and operated Checker Paint Store on Broadway for 17 years. She later gained her real estate license and became a realtor for Century 21 North. She was a charter member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, a member of the Daughters of the Nile, and previously Shrine Widows, Rockford Museum, Swedish Historical Society, Midway Village, The Cloisters, and Tinker Swiss Cottage. She also volunteered for Reach to Recovery for the American Cancer Society and the Republican Women's Club, and Girl Scouts. She was most proud of being a graduate from the Rockford High School Class of 1940 ("The Survivors"), and was very active as editor of the "Owl" newspaper for all the many reunions. Survivors include her daughter, Kim (Dean) Winter of Dassel, MN; son, John (Mary) Olson of Bloomington, IL; grandchildren, Michael and Tom Olson; and niece, Marilyn (Fred) Fettinger III of Lake Villa, IL. Preceded in death by her husband, Jack; parents; brother, Marvin Nordvall; and sister, Marjorie Carlson. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, August 14, 2015, at Olson Funeral & Cremation Services, Fred C. Olson Chapel, 1001 2nd Ave, Rockford, IL. Burial in Scandinavian Cemetery.
