Betty Peterson

BETTY ANN PETERSON, 89 ROCKFORD - Betty Ann Peterson, 89, of Rockford passed away Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, at SwedishAmerican Hospital after having a stroke Feb. 16. Born March 7, 1923, in Rockford, daughter of Edward G. and Anna E. (Swanstrom) Peterson. She was a 1941 graduate of Rockford East High School. Betty first worked at the city of Rockford health department, then the city clerk's office. Then she went to the Jackson-Keye Real Estate Agency, then A. Grootemoot (mortgages), and then worked 17 years at Home Federal Savings & Loan Company (now US Bank) on East State Street as assistant vice president/loan officer. She was a longtime member of First Evangelical Covenant Church, where she was a chancel choir member, secretary for the Sunday school department, and belonged to Missionary Circle, Covenant Companions and Covenant Women. She is survived by niece, the Rev. Faye Orton (Steve) Snyder of Lafayette, Calif.; nephew, Fred (Joyce) Arvidson of Eagle River, Alaska; cousin and caregiver, Marcia Peterson of Rockford; and cousins, Connie (Dr. Keith) Swenson of Portland, Ore., Dr. Robert (Colleen) Turner of Reedsburg, Wis., and Dr. Bruce (Dr. Vicki) Peterson of Australia. Predeceased by parents; sister, Edna Arvidson; brother-in-law, Frank B. Arvidson; aunts, Lillian Peterson and Ruth Turner; uncles, Henry Peterson, Elmer Peterson, Albert Swanstrom and Elmer Swanstrom; and cousins, Harold Turner and Grace Peterson. Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday, March 8, in the chapel at First Evangelical Covenant Church, 316 Wood Road, with Pastors Peter Dibley and Dave Ahrens officiating. Burial in Scandinavian Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 12:45 p.m. Friday before the service at the church. Light refreshments after the service in Fellowship Hall at the church.
