Dane Shultz Obituary

Dane Shultz 1985—2016
Dane Robert Shultz, 30, of Roscoe lost his struggle with addiction on Thursday, March 10, 2016. He was born October 30, 1985, in Rockford, Illinois to parents, Dr. Robert Shultz, D.D.S. and Sue Ellen (Brown) Shultz, both of LaGrange, Illinois. Dane grew up in Roscoe, attending local schools and was baptized and confirmed at Roscoe United Methodist Church. He graduated from Hononegah High School in 2004, and earned his Bachelor's degree in Leadership Management and Outdoor Recreation from Northern Michigan University, where he enjoyed his employment at Elizabeth's Chophouse and many hours of snowmobiling, camping and outdoor survival near his beloved childhood family cabin in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Dane was happiest when surrounded by family or friends at a campfire, playing pool, hockey, ping-pong or golf, riding a motorcycle, 4-wheeler or snowmobile and just chilling to movies, music, Extreme Sports, History Channel and the Blackhawks. He will be remembered for his boisterous laugh, bear hugs, log splitting/fire building skills, off-key singing, crazy dancing and deep love for his family. His struggle with addiction was his greatest challenge and disappointment with himself. He will be dearly missed by his parents; grandmothers, Eileen Shultz of LaGrange, Betty Brown of Rockford; 3 sisters and their families, Kara (Tapp) Smith of Littleton, CO, Becki (Jordan) DeMars of Roscoe, Ellie (Tyler) Powell of Rockford; girlfriend, Brittany Bauer and her daughter, Olivia; as well as many loving uncles, aunts, cousins, "kissing cousins"; nieces, Iyla, Mahri Smith; and nephew, Kane DeMars. Dane was preceded in death by his grandfathers, John William Shultz, William F. Brown; aunt, Debbie Pleviak; and uncle, Rene Fitzpatrick.
Memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 17, 2016, in Roscoe United Methodist Church, 10816 Main Street, Roscoe, with Rev. Paul Meyers officiating. An Open House visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 16, 2016, in Harman Hall in Roscoe United Methodist. Memorials may be sent to the Shultz's, PO Box 967, Roscoe, IL 61073, and will be shared with "Building for Our Future" Roscoe Methodist's Campaign Fund for Children and CeDAR-Center for Dependency, Addiction & Rehabilitation, U of CO Hospital-Aurora, CO, to share our support of families' struggle with the disease of addiction. Dear Rob, Sue, and Family;
Words cannot express the sadness I feel for your loss. I wish to commend your courage for stating how Dane passed away. Everyday in our country hundreds of young people are dying from drug overdose, and losing the battle with addiction. Your courage will help educate others and hopefully prevent other families from suffering the same fate. All of you are in my thoughts and prayers. Wishing God's blessings and love at this time.

Dear Sue and Family...Just wanted to share my heartfelt prayers to you and your family. You may not remember me, but I also grew up in LaGrange. I went to Cossitt School and LT and was good friends with your sister Charlene. I have lived in the Rockford area for almost 40 years and am very good friends with Cyndi Oyen Rogers Ilseman and Bekki Oyen Zammuto I was just with those two ladies over the weekend and we shared your sorrow as we spoke of addiction and the clutch it has on people we love. Just wanted you to know that you and your family are on my mind. With deepest sympathy, Kathy Kiehl Dall'Osto
