Darwin Martinson Obituary

DARWIN L. 'MARTY' MARTINSON, 86 ROCKFORD - Darwin L. "Marty" Martinson, 86, of Rockford, passed away Wednesday, December 31, 2014, in the presence of his loving family. Born May 27, 1928, in Madge, WI, the son of Norman H. Martinson and Emily C. Vonasek. Graduated from East Rockford High School in 1946. Married June M. Johnson; she predeceased him. Married Bess M. Hanson December 26, 1975. Served as a Corporal in the United States Army, 6th Armed Division Band, Fort Leonardwood, Missouri. First Chair trombone in both high school and army. He later taught and played in civilian bands. Worked over 30 years as a Realtor in the Rockford area. Survived by children, Delores (William) Anderson, David Hanson, Lori (KittiKarn) Mejudhon, all of Rockford, Donna (Charles) Bragg of Bolingbrook, IL, Gloria Prather of Rockton, Tim Martinson and Jodi Martinson of Florida; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; twin great- grandsons on the way; 2 great-great-grandsons; sisters-in-law, Marlys (Robert) Scott of McFarland, WI, and Judy Stanek of Kenosha, WI. Predeceased by wife, Bess; son Richard; and daughter-in-law, Cheryl Hanson. Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday January 13, 2015, in Fred C. Olson Chapel, 1001 Second Ave, Rockford, IL 61104, with Rev. Ed Greenfield officiating. Inurnment in Sunset Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service Tuesday in the chapel. To share a memory or condolence visit olsonfh.com.
