Dean Dannenberg Obituary

DEAN 'DIZ' S. DANNENBERG, SR., 86 ROCKFORD - Dean "Diz" S. Dannenberg, Sr., 86, of Rockford passed away on Tuesday, November 5, 2013, with his family present, after a short illness. Born in Rockford to George and Dorothy (Sherman) Dannenberg, September 26, 1927. Dean graduated from East High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines, serving in WWII. On February 14, 1948, Dean married Barbara Bertrand. In his early years he worked for the Electric Company and then transitioned into the automotive industry, retiring from Fran Kral. He was an amazing, loving, caring man who put smiles on faces for as long as we can remember. He taught us that no matter how old we get we can always be a kid at heart. Whether it was his various sports cars he's owned and loved, or the slot car track in the basement, or jumping in the swimming pool with his kids and grandkids, or taking the family out for a boat ride, you could ALWAYS see the little boy glowing inside, especially when he'd crack that smile. He was a big supporter of the Chicago Cubs, Bears, camping, loved NASCAR, enjoyed golf with family and friends. He loved to dance with Mom, dancing to big band music, Glen Miller being their most favorite. He enjoyed his trips to Daytona, Florida. He was a member of the Jaycee's Club and of the Rockford Kite Club. He was at the core of a very close family that has always played and laughed together. He will be sorely missed and it won't be the same without him. He is forever in all of our hearts. Survived by wife, Barbara; sister, Jill Rongere; children, Dean (Diana) Dannenberg, Jr., Nancy Dannenberg, Susie Dannenberg-Bowers, David Dannenberg, Mike (Becky) Dannenberg; 4 grandchildren, Doug, (Traci), Brad (Tracy), Josh (Lindsay) and Nicole; 11 great-grandchildren, River, Ivy Rose, Evelynn Joy, Brandon, Bryce, Ty, Kobey, Gwen, Sydney, Cassandra, and Danielle. His family wishes to thank Heartland Hospice for their compassionate care. Visitation will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday, November 9, 2013, with the Memorial Service at 3 p.m. in Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory, 4311 North Mulford Road, Loves Park, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations to Heartland Hospice Care, 363 Financial Court, Unit 300, Rockford, Illinois 61107-6671. To share a memory or condolence, visit honquestfh.com.

Aunt Barb and all my wonderful cousins, You are all in my thoughts and prayers. There is a loss in my heart for Uncle Dean as well. Because there was Grandma and Grandpa there are all of us. With that said, all those Christmas mornings come flooding back into my memory. What wonderful times we all had together. Couldn't wait to get in the car and go to Uncle Dean and Aunt Barb's house. I am sure Uncle Dean is being welcomed by Grandma and Grandpa. I am almost certain my dad is playing "Roll Out The Barrel" on the organ, Uncle Jimmy is sure to be whistling some beautiful tune and of course, Aunt Shirley is talking his ear off. As for my sister Julie, she probably is showing Uncle Dean all around and telling him "this is Heaven". I know my mother loved her brother with such a warm heart and will miss him deeply. Each of you mom as well are in my thoughts and prayers.
Your Cousin, Lori Rongere, Kampmeier

Dear Aunt Barbara, I read about Uncle Diz with a sad heart, but also with the joy of knowing where he is today. For the few times that I was with him starting from my boyhood memories of Rockford and including the last two, in Vero and at Aunt Irene's memorial, I had a special love for Uncle Diz. Victoria and I send our love and prayers to you and all of our family. Your loving nephew, John
