Donald Lindquist Obituary

DONALD H. LINDQUIST, 87 ROCKFORD - Donald H. Lindquist, 87, of Rockford, passed away November 5, 2013, in P.A. Peterson Center for Health. Born January 27, 1926, in Rockford; the son of Saul and Zettie (Harper) Lindquist. He was a graduate of East High School where he was on the football and basketball varsity teams, and was president of the class of 1943. He attended Purdue University and University of Michigan where he was captain of the basketball team. He served in the United States Navy as a Lt. JG during WWII where he served in Guam. Donald married Lucille E. Mitchell July 10, 1947. She predeceased him March 2, 2012. He began in sales and retired after forty years as the National Sales Manager of the Fastener Division of National Lock. He remained interested in sports throughout his life, especially cheering for the University of Michigan, Packers, White Sox, and Bulls. He enjoyed his class reunions for high school and college. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and was the kind of person you could count on. Survived by children, Scott (Marian) Lindquist of Iron River, Mich. and Sally (Frank) Marcon of Rockford; grandchildren, Melissa and Allison Marcon; and sister, Joyce Broughton. Predeceased by daughter, Susan M. Grimm in December 2011. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 9, 2013, at Olson Funeral & Cremation Service, Fred C. Olson Chapel, 1001 2nd Ave., with Rev. Dr. Michael Thomas officiating. Burial in Scandinavian Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 to 10:45 a.m. in the funeral home prior to the service. Memorials may be made to the Rockford Rescue Mission, 715 W State St, Rockford, IL 61102 or American Cancer Society, PO Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718. James Hof

Sorry to learn of Don's passing. He was Vice President of 1943. James Hof was the first semester president of the class and Chuck Hopp was the second semester president. Don was a first class person in every respect and I treasured him as a classmate.
