Donald Nelson Obituary
Donald G. Nelson, 82, of Cherry Valley, passed away Saturday, February 11, 2017, in OSF St. Anthony Medical Center. He was born September 18, 1934, Rockford, IL, the son of Herbert and Alice (Carlson) Nelson. He married Barbara Neff on February 28, 1953. He later married Diane (Rasmussen) Ludwigsen on July 17, 2004. Donald was self-employed where he worked at restoring antique autos. He was a member of First Lutheran Church; Model T Club, Whizzer Bicycle Club and the Men's Breakfast Club. He is survived by his wife, Diane of Cherry Valley; daughter, Pamela (David) Venter; son, Byron (Karin) Nelson; and daughter, Lisa (Jerry) Bojarski; grandchildren, Christopher and Paul Venter, Heather (Jason) Appelquist, Michael Nelson and Julie (Michael) Enneking, and Alyssa, Brian and Kevin Bojarski; great-grandchildren, Taylor and Axel Appelquist; brother, Herbert "Bill" W. Nelson Jr; nephew, Dennis Nelson; stepson, Daniel Ludwigsen, and stepdaughter, Karin Rochester; step-grandchildren, Kaela Grace and Hannah Marie Rochester, and Gunnar, Gustav, and Hattie Ludwigsen. Predeacesed by his parents and first wife.
Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, February 18, 2017, at First Lutheran Church, 225 S. 3rd St., Rockford, with Rev. Jane McChesney officiating. Burial in Scandinavian Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:15 p.m. at First Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials to First Lutheran Church, 225 S. 3rd St. Rockford, IL 61104. Lisa and Family -
I've known your dad was not in good health, but still cried when I heard he passed. My condolences. I will always smile at the memories of Model T July 4 parades and road trips, pizza at Capri, ice cream at the Last Straw and many nights spent running around your parents' home. Your dad always had a smile and sense of fun about him. Again, my condolences.
