Donald Weir Obituary
Donald R. Weir, 91, of Rockford, passed away Sunday, August 19, 2018 at OSF St. Anthony Hospital. Born on December 25, 1926, in Rockford, the son of Durwood and Matilda (Anderson) Weir. Graduate of East High School, Class of 1944. Don was a United States Navy Veteran. He married Phyllis Mooney on July 11, 1948 in Rockford and recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. Don worked for the Rockford Fire Department for 41 ½ years, retiring in 1991 with rank of District Chief. Don truly enjoyed the RFD and respected the people he worked with. He was an active member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Sea Scouts, Winnebago Co. Fire Chiefs & International Association of Fire Chiefs, and American Legion Mid-Town District. Don was very dedicated to his family, church, and community. Survived by his wife, Phyllis; sons, Alan (Pam) Weir and David Weir; three grandchildren, Dale Weir, Dana (Rob) Bruner, and Jarod Weir. Predeceased by his parents; and brother & sister-in-law, Robert (Lola) Weir.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 25, 2018 in Fred C. Olson Chapel, 1001 Second Ave. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. prior to the service in the chapel. Private burial in Scandinavian Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance Camp "I am Me" in honor of Don Weir, 426 W. Northwest Highway, Mount Prospect, IL 60056 or Emmanuel Lutheran Food Pantry, 920 3rd Ave, Rockford, IL 61104. To share a memory or condolence, visit olsonfh.com.
