EMIL P. SCHADEWALDT JR., 81 MACHESNEY PARK - Emil P. Schadewaldt Jr., 81, of Machesney Park passed away peacefully Monday, December 9, 2013, surrounded by his family. Born September 12, 1932, in Loves Park, he was the son of Emil P. and Hilda E. (Freese) Schadewaldt. He married Barbara Cook on December 21, 1953, in Rockford. A Veteran of the U.S. Army from 1953 - 1956, he served in The Occupation Forces of Germany. Emil retired from Ameritech (AT&T) after 36 years of employment. He was a lifetime member of the Loves Park VFW, Post 9759, where he served on the Honor Guard Detail. He served 20 years on the North Park Water Department Board of Directors; and 22 years as a volunteer for the North Park Fire Department. An avid Green Bay Packers and Cubs fan, he enjoyed fishing, yard work, and gardening. He is lovingly survived by his wife of 59 years, Barbara Schadewaldt; daughters, Diana (Edward) Hogshead, Debra (John) Bolton, and Denice (Frank) Bartucci; 8 grandchildren and 11 great- grandchildren. Emil was predeceased by his parents, and brother, Ryle Schadewaldt. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of St. Anne Center, OSF Hospice, Dr. Michael Kouimelis and Kathy. Funeral service 10 a.m. Saturday, December 14, at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Road, Machesney Park, Pastor Wendell Maynard officiating.
