Everett Zinser Obituary

Everett Arthur Zinser, DDS, 90 ROCKFORD - Everett Arthur Zinser, DDS, 90, of Rockford, formerly of Freeport, died early Thursday morning, March 17, 2011, in his home at Morning Star Village, having lived a full, productive and healthy life. Everett was born July 4, 1920, on a farm near Hooppole, the eldest son of Arthur Edward and Edith Cora (Roberts) Zinser. He attended Hooppole schools and graduated from Prophetstown High School in 1938. After one season of farming, he enrolled in the University of Illinois and attended classes until his U.S. Army ROTC unit was called to active duty. While stationed at Fort Knox, Ky., he married Lucille Darlene Holton of Kewanee on Nov. 25, 1944, in Jeffersonville, Ind. After a tour in the Philippines and World War II ended, he received an honorable discharge at the rank of second lieutenant. In 1947, Everett and Lucille returned to Champaign-Urbana, where he received a B.S. in agriculture. From the fall of 1948 until spring of 1951, they lived in Chicago and Elmhurst while he attended Loyola University School of Dentistry. He received his DDS degree from Loyola in 1951 and moved to Freeport, where after receiving his license as a dentist on Aug. 21, 1951, he established a general practice. He practiced full time until 1983 and continued to care for a few patients until he gave up his license in 1994. During retirement, he remained active spending time with his grandchildren and enjoying golfing, snow skiing, hunting, fishing and playing piano. He split his time between Freeport, the desert of southern California, the mountains of Colorado and the island of Maui. During the nearly 60 years he lived in Freeport, Everett was active in numerous professional and civic organizations. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lucille; children, Mark (Liza) Zinser of Tamunig, Guam, Jan (Clark) Wangaard of Belvidere and Brian (Virginia) Zinser of Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.; grandchildren, Todd Wangaard of Arlington, Va., Christian Wangaard of Denver, Colo., Caroline Zinser of New Orleans, John Zinser of Pensacola, Fla., and Casey Zinser of Tamunig, Guam; and seven siblings. He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother; brother; and a sister. The family would like to thank the staff of Morning Star Village, Transitions Hospice and hospice nurse Julie Brock in making the final weeks of Everett's life with Lucille comfortable. A memorial service will be later this summer in Freeport. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to Transitions Hospice, 5100 E. State St., Rockford, IL 61108. As a previous travel agent in Freeport I "worked with" Everett planning one of his many trips to Maui. As it worked out we celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary in Maui and made arrangements to golf with Everett and Lucille..what a blast. Of course life goes on and we never met up upon returning to Illinois. Will never forget what a beautiful couple you were and your inspiratation was fabulous both on life and golf. Was our pleasure and bless you Lucille and your family as you continue on. Ron and Pam Walters

Although I didn't know Ev for very long, I knew him long enough to be forever changed. Ev, I loved hearing your stories of your life and family. Your love for Lucille, Jan and your family radiated from as you talked about them. I loved your sweet gentle spirit. I so looked forward to our visits. My favorite day with you with was the time I was privelaged to help you with your lunch. I am thankful you now have eternal peace with no more suffering. I will keep any eye on Lu for as she walks through this difficult time. I am thankful for the friend I found in Jan. Ev, I look forward to seeing you again someday and having a party with you! Save a dance for me. My prayers are with your family as they grieve your loss. Love you my friend!

I have nothing but the fondest memories of Everett. Meeting him for the first time was a memorable experience along with the stories of his life. Hearing jokes about Porters on trains, his love for Lucille and the joy of raising his 3 beautiful children will always be remembered. Lil Annie and I will miss him dearly! I pray for peace and comfort for those that carry his legacy on and his wonderful wife.

Ev was an important part of my existence from the day I was born and there have been very few people who had such a major impact on my life. I will always remember a happy, inquisitive man who enjoyed every aspect of his life. I am forever indebted to all he added in helping make me the person I am today. I am proud to have known him and will never forget him. I send all my love to Lucy, Mark, Jan, Brian and the grandchildren.

There will forever be a hole in my heart. I feel truly blessed to have known him. He was such a sweet man who was ALWAYS happy to share his knowledge. I will miss listening to him playing the piano, and hearing the stories of his life. I will never forget you Ev!

Lucille and family, may all your memories give you comfort now and forever! Love you.

One of the family has left the fold, and I will miss him very much. He is and was my big brother and I loved him very much.
